What's one thing you would change about ISU's current scheme? Could be different offense, new defensive alignment, moving a player from one position to another (or trying them on special teams), etc.

Something I've wanted ISU to do for the past couple years is go away from the hurry-up offense and shorten the game. Take your time between plays and limit the other team's opportunities on offense. ISU just doesn't have the playmakers or consistency on offense to get into shootouts with other B12 teams (now). Plus, if it could help the defense stay *that* less gassed by keeping them on the sideline just a bit longer then I would take it (yes, I know you still need the offense to move the ball when doing this in order to keep the defense rested, but still).

What ya got, CF?

I would employ the scheme where the Iowa State O-Line blocks the defensive line and keeps them out of the backfield as well as opening running lanes.

I'd definitely go for the W/L column. Needs a quick overhaul!

The uniform & logo design department. We have better designers posting to this forum. There are ways of building enthusiasm & momentum for a program besides hiring new coaches every other year.

Go back to big nasty run blocking o linemen. Thankfully I think we're headed in that direction.

Its been too long since we've had a 1000 yard back. Also need a stud RB that can run somebody over.

Find a way to maximize the impact of guys who are special talents. Get athleticism on the field in creative ways. Both Stanford and UCLA have done it in recent years (Owen Marecic and Miles Jack). At a minimum, I would echo Chris Williams call for Lanning to see the field some how, some way. I know we aren't swimming in talent and depth, but are we maximizing the skill on our roster by getting the biggest, fastest people in position for certain situations?

Not even close, it's more creative and aggressive defense.

Watching the Vikings go from the Cover 2 with 10 yard cushions to an aggressive blitzing defense and going from historically bad to top 10 in the NFL only enhanced my beliefs that the conservative defense is about 15 years out of date.

Have a niche. I just don't think we can be a consistent bowl team when we're trying to run the same scheme with less talent. I've suggested the triple option, but even just a power running game like Wisconsin runs would be something I'd get excited about too.

The Cover 2 is very dependent upon the DT's ability to stuff the run on his own, linebackers being able to drop into coverage on pass plays, and safeties with good coverage skills. Keep all the plays in front of you and force teams into 3rd down situations. Only problem with it is when your DT's can't stuff the run it all goes to crap. Your LB's can't get to their zone on play action because they have to cheat to help the D-line and the corners and safeties can't cover all that territory beyond 15 yards. There's tons of easy yards on the field to get as long as your QB has time to find them. And that's the story of ISU's defense the last few years.

I would like to see ISU take more chances on defense because they have to. They don't often match up against a team in the Big 12 they have a talent advantage on, and really need turnovers and short fields in order to make their jobs easier. But they can't change it at this point. They've got the wrong players and no time to start over, so we have to hope this is the year people stay healthy and things click up front.

Can I change the part where we somehow end up with fewer points than the opponent at the end of the game?

Surely that'd be a better game plan than the one we're using right now.

The Cover 2 is dependent on a lot of things, and even when played perfect can be torn apart by the new spread offenses. The rules going in the offense's favor are just too much.

It was a great d back in the day when CBs could touch WRs and QBs weren't so pinpoint accurate, but now if you don't have a totally dominant Dline your team is absolute toast. And what defense isn't good if you have a totally dominant Dline?

The system is and should be dead.

Agreed. Who gives a **** if we give up more big plays. Offenses still scored at will on us... Might as well put some pressure on them every once in awhile. It's when they get comfortable that they start picking us apart.

1. Play keep away
-We aren't outscoring anyone, snap the ball with less than 5 seconds each and every time
2. Have some damn fundamentals on the defensive side of the ball
- How many missed tackles did we have last year? Poor angles, poor breaks on the ball, etc etc.
3. Be creative
-Can't beat em? Trick em, where's the balls rhoads had early on in his career?
4. Unis (i know, i know beating a dead horse)
-Be crazy, we have the most oddly unique mascot in all of sports... why not be like that, have creative unis

& a badass fullback ala Ryan Kock. Looks like Mangino may be trying to bring that back for this year with the recent linebacker conversions. Getting repeatedly stuffed on short yardage situations is inexcusable. Can we PLEASE line up under center rather than starting the play five yards behind the line of scrimmage??

I wouldn't throw a pass between 5-10 yards ever... All routes would be screens or beyond 10 yards every single time.
I would run the ball like my life depended on it between the tackles. I would boot leg, play action, and get rid of the stupid looking to the sideline for a play or audible. annoying as F.

O and I would change us to just being good.

On D I would simply let loose. Stop giving cushions to anyone ever. It obviously doesn't work. We have proven that to be fact for the entire country. Giving cushion only works if you have a Dline that causes havoc. We do not have that. Because then you prey off of poorly thrown balls. Just go be aggressive.
