Tight end is one of the most difficult positions to recruit and project. It’s boom or bust. And Everett can be a boom for someone. He had 17 catches this season for 292 yards while playing in a deep rotation. He’s a native of Georgia — and like Howard — a junior college kid. What makes sense: Bethune Cookman or Iowa State. Everett signed with Bethune out of high school. Cyclones assistant Tommy Mangino was also at Hutchinson C.C. when Everett was there, although that timeline is a little shaky.

Sign their D-Line. Would probably be eligible right away due to tragic circumstance they're coming from but somehow wouldn't be coming to ISU.

Need oline material too. How about a center? My guess is these guys can play right away since the program was dismantled.

Except since it's ISU, the NCAA would make them sit a year plus 5 games or something.

I believe when ISU cancelled the baseball program the players were given the option to stay at ISU under scholarship or transfer and play immediately somewhere else.

May not be world problems like starvation, famine, or war tragic...but try looking the players, coaches, fans, etc. who are a part of that UAB football program in the eye and telling them that it isn't tragic.

Sucks for those players but let's get real, tragic? If this is the most tragic thing that happens to those young men in their lives then they should consider themselves extremely fortunate.

This is something we're going to see more of in the next few years. As the power 5 schools grab more and more it won't be economically feasible for a lot lower D1 schools to keep football. UAB will be a good test case for other schools who have budget issues. If UAB as a university takes a huge hit in enrollment and donations after this then we won't see a ton of schools dropping it. If on the other hand this fixes some of their budget issues and it ends up not being that big of a hit then there won't be much for D1 football outside the power 5.

"Tragic" circumstances?

Get a grip, dude.
This is a football forum...So in the terms of the forum, ending a football program would be tragic. Clearly I should redirect you to the Huffington Post, Politico, or Drudge Report depending on your "worldly" viewpoint.

This should be like a job fair. Just send some assistant coaches down there, set up a booth that says, "Cyclone Football 2015: Open interviews, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM!!!"

Take 'em all!

Tragic is the least of terms I would use when a school shuts down a sport. It sucks, really sucks for the players, fans, etc. Tragic? No.
