Perhaps we could try to get some transfers in here in the next couple of years.
It works for a lot of schools - so maybe it could work for Hoiberg.
Unless we are worried about not doing it the right way.

Looks like we just got a verbal from 4'4" 2025 PG "Money" Marcus Johnson. Tearing up his YMCA league to the tune of 2 points per game. Apparently his team has a couple to watch in the 2025 class they've been undefeated since Pre-K so we could be in on a package deal.

Who worries about this? All I care about is enjoying this season. Worrying about 2016/2017 is what we pay Hoiberg for...

Anyone else worried for 2016-17 and beyond? Cupboard looks pretty bare. We lose Hogue and BDJ this year. Our Junior class this year is loaded with Niang, McKay, Naz, Nader. Morris might go pro before he becomes a senior. Would've been nice to redshirt Naz his freshman year to balance these classes.

Assuming Morris goes pro early, that leaves Thomas, SDW, Cooke, Custer, Darien Williams, the Greek, and Kourtlin. That's banking a lot on massive improvement from our existing guys, and landing some major talent in the transfer market. Just seems like we whiffed on the 2015 class by only signing 1 guy in Williams. I know we're probably reserving schollies for transfers, but it's probably safe to say we may have a transfer or two of our own that frees up some schollies, so was keeping those scholarships free really necessary? Considering we have someone transfer out every year. Bluford and Percy last year, Okoro two years ago, Railey and Sledge three years ago, etc.

So am I crazy to be a little worried for 2016 and beyond? Or should I just trust Hoiball.

This is why 2016 is looking like a good recruniting class for us. Worst case it is Fred's first rebuilding year (which we thought last year would be remember) but if the 2016 class lands some big fish plus any transfers he gets this year and next we will be more than likely still a very good team. May it be Fred's first year of non progression? Probably but that is only because 2015-16 is shaping up to be a very special year and you can only progress so far before it is inevitable for every team including Kentucky to at least take a small step backwards to get all the pieces lined up for another title shot.

Unless you have one and dones it is next to impossible for teams like Iowa State to attract the next wave of talent to join a team that they will not see the floor in year one. That is the reality of our 2015 situation. We arent quite good enough yet to get the one and dones yet and we are too loaded to get the next tier and we aren't interested in the next tier because we are better off on the transfer market. 2016 is a different story altogethor we should be able to get a few tier one and two players for a really good HS class plus having a couple transfers that sit out next year ready to go for 2016.

What do you mean we? I see one poster who even the Class A #1 worrier in me thinks is ridiculously overreacting and then a whole thread full of people telling him that it isn't a problem and having fun with it. We aren't doing anything to ourselves.

It's more than just the OP. Every other week there is some stupid *** thread about:

1. If Hoiberg were to leave, who would be his replacement?
2. Is BDJ too flashy?
3. What are going to do if Niang and/or Morris leave early?
4. Should Custer/Tsalmpouris redshirt/get more minutes?
5. Will Custer be ready to step in if Morris gets injured or leaves after this year.

We're only 2 games into the season. Why are people worrying about these things? Fred has this under control and I'm sure he has a plan. There is nothing we can do about any of these things anyway, so just enjoy the rest of the season (lot of games to be played).

Half the basketball threads are about things that have not happened, BDJ's shot selection, or some other nitpicky crap about last game. Just seems like people are going way overboard, but I don't totally blame them. I think they're just carrying over the football attitude into basketball season.

My thoughts for what they are worth:
1) Don't get in the way of me enjoying this season.
2) Fred's success has been the combination of transfers sprinkled with elite HS recruits.
3) Fred and staff have earned our trust on the ability to get transfers, but too soon to worry about that as we don't even know who will be available on that front yet. I trust that process.
4) As that staff narrows their focus on more elite HS recruits, it is all or nothing. Getting 1 per class seems to be enough to meet Fred's needs. Beyond Niang, we haven't nailed our recruiting of HS bigs. A commitment from Diallo would certainly change that landscape, and someone like Bridges the next year would continue it.
5) If the staff miss on the elite, HS recruits, we can fill in with transfers, but I do believe that will potentially put a bit of the elite luster the program is building at risk after Niang graduates/moves on if we don't close the deal on an elite big.
6) Summary: I am not "worried". I am excited that if we can round the corner of recruiting elite big talent, then we can go places this program hasn't been.

People are so drunk on Hoiball Kool-Aid that they can't stop thinking about it which leads to guys over analyzing every detail.

There could be some holes to fill if Fred completely fails at recruiting the next year and a half. I don't see that happening though. I look for Fred to find at least one athletic big name for the next signing period. At times it would be nice to get another HS big man, so he could play for more than 1-2 years, but I am not going to worry about what CFH does, he seems to have more answers than any of us.

Im pretty sure Bryce Dejean Jones will leave us after this year and he is obviously one of our best players. Add another great to the list that has left us after one year because they cant get along with hoiberg. ridiculous

This is just awful. We will never have a strong program with superstar talent never staying 4 years. Some day a transfer is going to burn us badly and ruin our entire season. We can't count on them forever. Fred needs to start recruiting now or he is going to be in a Paul Rhoads situation where all the talent he brings in are just not Big 12 players. We just can't go down this path again, Fred either needs to hop on the recruiting trail or hop on the train out of Ames.

My question is to why all the lazy smartass responses. Duh, look at 2020, 2030, 2040... A bunch of dumbasses trying to be smartasses.

Bro I'm being serious. We are in desperate need for players or we might finish at the bottom of the Big 12, or even worse, get kicked out of the conference. Do you want that to happen? The OP is right, now is the time to panic.
