Anyone else worried for 2016-17+?

No. Tons of time for us to grab recruits and player development. This and next season will be huge for recruiting. I'll worry about it once it becomes time to worry about it.

No, but I'm super worried about the 2025-26 season. Has Fred even started recruiting for it yet?! We don't even have one target there!

What about the 37-38 season? We are falling so ******* far behind. Fire Fred, he obviously can't set up a program for the future. Better to cut him lose now than later.

Not remotely. Plenty of time to fill any holes with talent.

Out of curiosity's sake, anyone know what talent we wouldntve known about for this season in November 2012?
The only one's off the top of my head would be Niang and Long. Although, they only would have had 1-2 games under their belts as true Freshman at the time. Long would have pretty much only been getting garbage time.

Monte Morris and Matt Thomas both committed in June '12.
Dustin Hogue committed to play with ISU in September '12.

We definitely didn't know about McKay, Nader, & Dejean-Jones.
McKay committed Dec '13.
Nader committed May '13.
BDJ committed April '14.

So out of our 8 key players for this season, the only players we would have seen play would have been Niang and Long. (and only for 2 games)
Morris, Thomas, and Hogue were commits but weren't on the team yet.
And Nader, McKay, and BDJ haven't even committed yet.

That's plenty of a core. Fred can progress players fine--look at Naz, Melvin, and Georges for evidence of that. Guys who were strong 3's or weak 4's turning into Big 12 starters and then some. Never mind what he is currently doing with Monte Morris.

That's six slots for recruits and the cream of the transfer market. Will that year be quite what the next two are going to be? Perhaps not--but it's still going to be fun.

Clearly he's out of gas.

Obviously. Better just start on the coaching candidate thread. I can't believe we hired a guy with 0 experience as a coach. I bet Bill Self and Roy Williams already have official visits planned for some of them. We are facing some dark times.

Yeah. I am pretty worried. Anyone that says otherwise is lying to themselves. Our last couple recruiting classes have been subpar. We need something this year.
Is this post for real? It is laughable to be "pretty worried".

Besides the whole trust Hoiberg, you are talking about two years out, which is an eternity in basketball. Half of the classes that will comprise that roster have not even signed, the other half are still underclassmen. To trivialize it, you should be really worried for 2018-19, as that roster looks pretty sparse.

All things considered it is the opposite of worried- we are looking pretty damn good imo. Two years out and you already have two guys with starting experience and another that started in the Pac-12? Solid. Other guys are unknowns but would be reasonable to assume one of Williams, Tsalampouris, and Custer will turn out. And we will sign some good players between now and then. Two years ago did you know we would have Kane, McKay, Nader, and BDJ?

We need to start hitting on more preferred recruits to take the next step (become an elite program and not just have elite teams), but pretty worried about 2016-17 is not using reason.

I think JP should interview Matt A. after he fires Fred.

Agreed. Matt could run a high octane offense, tough defense, and recruit players as young as we need. We can't afford to start losing or the Big 12 might kick us out. Maybe we should just drop down a conference so we can start winning some more games. Getting first place in the MAC is way better than finishing 7th or 8th in the Big 12, which is exactly where we will be with Fred if we doesn't start recruiting better.

On the contrary. The cupboard is stacked with role players in 2016 who may well work their way to be stars with two more years of Hoiball under their belt. Even if none of them are stars though, if the next two seasons pan out like we all think, we will be in a better position than ever in terms of attracting high-level recruits to give us star power.

It's clear from our almost loss to Oakland that Hoiberg has completely lost the locker room. Not to mention we're always in the bottom half of the conference in recruiting. In basketball, your bigs are one of the most important positions, and Hoiberg has yet to bring on a good one. He's constantly having to have smaller players move out of position to play because he can't recruit it.

For those that don't know DFWClone is a troll. Don't confuse him with DFWCyclones who is a great contributor to cyclone nation and does a lot of work for the Dallas Fort Worth alumni association.

Absolutely. We need bigs. Fred just can't cut it here. Our run and gun style just doesn't work in college basketball. It's so awful we will have to fire one of the greatest iconic in Cyclone basketball history, but when you can't recruit you can't recruit. Next man up. It's unfortunate that we will never get as good of a coach here as Travis Ford or Dave Rice, but they are once in a generation types of coaches. Maybe our next guy can bring in more bigs. In basketball 50% of the game is scoring and 50% is defense, and we never win the defensive side with our guys looking like hobbits swatting and giants.

Mods: Pls retitle thread "Bizarro World 2016-17+" due to the OP's premise that Coach Hoiberg suddenly doesn't know WTF he is doing.

This discussion obviously was not meant to occur in the real world where Hoiball rules supreme.
