State fair one day, then move in the next. Didnt take too long to get moved in.

Did move in crew, seeing how much stuff some college students bring, especially girls, was very eye opening.

I helped move my now wife into (and out of) 4th floor Friley 3 years straight, while my room was first floor Friley (Stange). Should have switched rooms to cut my stair exercise down

My first move in was 4 years ago. We weren't sure it would be on time with Ames flooding the week before. Move into Welch hall and in was very humid. That place sucks with no AC in the beginning of the year.

My first move-in was in 2010, too. I remember the canned water that they had there donated by Budweiser. Apparently they send that to areas where the local drinking water is affected by natural disasters. I took one sip and tasted pure metal. A friend of mine kept an unopened can of that stuff in his room for at least a year; I'm not sure if he still has it or not.

That stuff really is nasty. You have to force that stuff down.

this surprised me. The girl next door had two columns of boxes to the ceiling in the hallway. I couldn't believe one person could have that much stuff. I did the rent a loft thing so the minivan wasn't even that full. My mom, myself, and my little brother got me moved in within a couple hours. Then we helped DH and his mom a bit too. I know my mom was pretty sad leaving me, but I was excited until about 7:30 that night when I we went to eat and the dining center was closed. I was used to not eating until like 10pm so I hadn't even thought to check the hours. So then I was a bit sad that I had to eat Lucky Charms for dinner and worried that my baby calves back home wouldn't get taken care of well enough since they were my sister's job then.

I was in Henderson and DH was in Godfrey - so glad we didn't have to deal with steps!

We always called Stange 'Strange" and their carpet seriously stunk. Not sure when you were there, but it always smelled walking through there.

I love the family and all, but it was one of the best days of my life.

seriously, my mom tells people I was crying as she left and I think she says that to make herself feel better. I cried for like two minutes the night before classes started because I wondered if I'd be ok handling the class size since I came from a class of 1. And maybe because I missed my cat. I was definitely not crying when she left. I was like sweeet no chores tonight!

she actually did! She was the sweetest cat. When I'd come home and call her name, she'd come running from the barn for me. First thing I did every visit home. One time my mom was outside on the phone with me and Lissa was in the yard so she had me talk to her and Lissa started meowing. It was so cute.

Today's Thursday - pretty sure I moved in on Thursday. But it was on the 16th, because it was actually my parents' 20th anniversary. And they spent it completely apart! Hard to believe it's been 8 years already!

I don't think your name was Ryan, so probably not the same time. Let me think here, all of fresh and soph year, so 2006-spring 2008, and then I think fall of 2008? There was a different President that semester though.

Now you sound like a coworker of mine.

Let me make this clear:

oh we have jerk cats like that that wouldn't miss you unless they had no way to get food otherwise. But Lissa was a nice cat. She totally missed me.

Just so I feel old. Mid 70's I moved into Schmidt house on 8th floor of Knapp Tower. My dad's job took us to New Hampshire during high school, thus I had a long drive to Ames.

Had to choose between motorcycle and car. Love my Yamaha too much to let it go, so came to school with a backpack and my father's old army duffle bag with clothes on the bike. Real 'Easy Rider' kind of trip. That was my move in.

I shipped a few more boxes of stuff, but that was it.

Being in a fraternity, we would usually go out to Towers to help students move in, invite them to dinner, to play ball at the rec, etc.

I remember one year seeing a kid with his mom heading into one of the towers, arms full of stuff so I offered to help. His mom went about putting away some of his stuff in his room and I headed out to the parking lot with him - to find a 14 foot Uhaul truck full of stuff.

The best part was that he had gotten dimensions of the room ahead of time and built a custom loft for him and his roommate. Was kind of an L-shaped design so it went along the wall perpendicular to the door, then the return was supposed to stop just short of the door. As he put it together, it was quite apparent that it was going to hang out past the door frame by a good foot or so. At that point, I quietly excused myself to help someone else.

Helser - McDonald

My only real memory of it other than the standard teary eyed mom was building my loft.

My dad's a carpenter and he looked at the lift kits and said I can do better. He had his skillsaw out in the stairwell (no mess in the room and easier to sweep than the carpet in the hall). Air compressor and nail gun in the room.

You could have parked a car on that loft.

Where they love the governor
2001, Friley 5th floor, Niles-Foster. They wouldn't let us use the elevator, so that was sweet. I didn't have much though - my room was tiny and I had to share it. I think they might have re-designated that bad boy to a single.
