To be fair, isn't this just the second all-time salary cap thread? The one I started simply morphed to where it had the original NBA discussion and an all-time ISU discussion going on all at once.

Hendrix
Moon
Tyler
McCartney
Hetfield (I'm not familiar with the names that were in my price range when I picked the rhythm guitarist; I flipped a coin)

Steven tyler is not a better front man than Jim morrison imo. Nor is bono.

Bono for $3 is a steal.
JPJ for $1 is just an error.

I think the tougher part of this is not the salary cap, it's getting guys who would work together. I don't see Jaco Pastorius and Axl Rose being a good match, for example. It's more like, what flavor of band do you want?

A lot is personal preference, but I'd question some of the list order.

I'm selecting mostly by versatility and a touch of song writing ability. If the guy can do much more that just their category that has to help right?

Jim Morrison $1 (this is personal preference but I'd take him over anyone on the list despite the price)
Eric Clapton $4
Neil Young $5
Flea $4
Dave Grohl $4

I only spent $18. I guess I could trade Neil for Pete with the extra, but I'd be pretty happy with the group as is. Honestly if I was going to make a change I'd save the dollar for Morrison and give it to Chris Cornell.

I don't listen to rock and haven't heard of most of these.

Hendrix $10
Mayer $7
Tyler $2
McCartney $2
Grohl $4

Just started assessing the draft board for this one ... regardless of combinations people choose, I'm curious what that band would sound like. (Not counting lineups involving more than 3/5 of an actual band).

Also: Is a member allowed to do anything beyond limited "slot"? If Richards and McCartney can also include songwriters and harmonizers as part of their role, for example -- they're in.

I thought it'd be fun to draft a band “most likely to implode within 17 secondsâ€￾:

One possibility:
Lead guitar: Van Halen $5
Rhythm guitar: Hetfield $2
Frontman: Rose $6
Bass: McCartney $2
Drums: Baker $1

That leaves $9 to form another group. That 5-piece would be unlistenable, but probably enduring.

I even ended up with change.

Frontman: David Bowe ($5) the man can sing anything.
Lead: I took two, because it's a rock band, and we break rules. Eric Clapton ($4) and George Harrison ($1) because While My Guitar Gently Weeps is the best
Rhythm: Tony Iommi ($4) because screw you, he (re)invented heavy metal with his busted up fingers, he's good enough to play any guitar part he wants to in my band.
Bass: Cliff Burton ($3) because he can play lead on a bass. Plus, his song writing....
Drums: Dave Grohl ($4) because with Grohl, who is an amazing drummer in his own right, also comes another singer, guitar player, and bass player.

Bowie, Claption, and Grohl sharing vocals.
Claption, Iommi, Harrison, and Burton rotating who's got the solo.
Grohl and Burton destroying the drive.
And all six of them on writing together.

I have a super group, and $3 left over to hire Bono as a roadie.

Free agent market for bass: Whoever plays that instrument on "12 Desperate Straight Lines" by Telekinesis.

(I think they had bass-player-overlap around the time of album release, so I'm not sure.)

Priority is "rhythm section"; melodic elements add color without drawing too much attention.

"You don't hear it until you hear it."

Examples:
"You Turn Clear in the Sun"
"I Cannot Love You"
"Please Ask For Help"
