Shane Burnham tweeted "Great day recruiting in Des Moines, cant wait to see what tomorrow brings....." #homegrow
He also had a pic of SEP school.

Just wondering who it might be and if we have a good shot because he seems pretty confident.

The coaches typically travel to every school to build relationships with the HS staffs. That way WHEN there is a kid they want, they aren't starting from scratch.

With that said, the staff could very well be recruiting a kid from SEP. I don't know.

Is that just Jeff Woody with a goatee?

See Shane Burnham's twitter. Reacting to his photo of Southeast Pollk and stating "Great Day in Des Moines...looking forward what tomorrow will bring...#HomeGrown.

The best two defensive players in the state next year are Deion Mikesell (SEP, 6'1" 230 LB) and Max Morris (Dowling, 6'2, 240 DE). If the Cyclones are smart they'd offer those 2 now before the Hawks grab them too.

Mikesell is a stud but is very raw right now. Has the tools to do some very big damage in college.

Seems like Dowling has really been cranking out the DI prospects the last 4-5 years. Such a powerhouse program, its too bad they literally get zero competition. It has to be boring beating every team by 35+ points.

Not every team but that is a product of the "competitive balance" that the state was going for when they created districts. All the good games are at the beginning of the year. Urbandale, Valley, and Waukee all were within a score last year and are all on the schedule this year.

Here is Dowling's 2013 schedule:
DOWLING

Aug. 30: at Southeast Polk
Sept. 6: vs. Valley (Drake Stadium)
Sept. 13: at Ankeny
Sept. 20: at Urbandale
Sept. 27: Mason City (Valley Stadium)
Oct. 4: Ankeny Centennial (Valley Stadium)
Oct. 11: at Ottumwa
Oct. 18: D.M. Hoover (Valley Stadium)
Oct. 25: Marshalltown (Valley Stadium)

A full list of CIML schools and schedules can be found here.

Waukee was a play-off game win.

Yeah I'd take Mikesell in a heartbeat.

The Morris kid is every bit as good as the Mikesell kid and took on double team blocking on almost every snap of the season. Both of these kids will play D1 ball and ISU would be wise to make offers now and not wait.

Just for accuracy purposes: Dowling
beat SEP twice, both by 24 points
beat Valley twice, 11 and 14 points
beat Urbandale by 4 points
beat Waukee by 5 points - play-off game, not regular season and is not on the 2014 schedule

That is last year's schedule on maxpreps. Dowling and Waukee play week 3 this year and next
I had forgot about the first Valley game but the one in the playoffs was a late score that made it a 14 pt game

My neighbor is the head football coach at a smaller school in the Des Moines area. He says Burnham stops by once in a while. Said he's never seen an Iowa coach. He says he's not going to be overly helpful if he has a DI prospect and Iowa finally comes visiting.

Does this surprise you? Des Moines is in Iowa State's backyard. On the flip side, I'm guessing there are plenty of "smaller schools" in the CR area that don't ever see ISU coaches. Sounds to me like your neighbor feels as though his team isn't good enough to garner attention from Iowa. You do realize collegiate coaching staffs only have so many coaches and they are already spread thin with recruiting the way it is don't you? If he doesn't have any solid prospects coming up the pipeline it would be a complete waste of time for Iowa to send a coach there. There's thousands of schools in Iowa. They aren't going to make it to every single one.

Another thing... I live in the Des Moines area, and an immediate family member of mine coaches at one of the biggest schools in the area. If you live here and are familiar with the athletics you would know that almost all of the major prospects end up playing at one of the bigger schools even if they start out at a smaller school. It's the nature of the beast. It's the best way to get recognized.

Disagree. I coach at a very large school but grew up in a very small one. If you are good enough, coaches will notice you. Doesn't matter where you are. Especially with how popular camps and summer combines are right now for HS kids. There have been plenty of 3A on down kids that have gone on to have successful college careers.
