I have to imagine that Fred is high on the TW's head coach wish list. Did you know that he worked in the front office after his career ended? :ptongue:

If the Thunder go out early in the playoffs I could see Brooks being fired. There is a college coach that would be extremely high on their list but it's not Hoiberg.

That is exactly the type of opportunity that would worry me. The opportunity to coach a player that could go down as one of the greatest of all time would really give one pause.

I don't think he goes to any NBA team anytime soon. I just included the Thunder because, although he didn't play for them, they are close enough to Iowa. 5 years down the road, who knows.

But not next year.

I couldn't agree more.

If FH leaves it will be for a job where he has a superstar roster and has the opportunity to coach a top player in the world. The Lakers would be tempting as well I would guess.

But FH will be here for years. I'm not worried until a spot like that opens up.

@WideRtNattyLt: Timberwolves have had 10 head coaches in 24 yrs. Do you really want to be The Mayor of a place with a term length of 2.4 yrs, Fred Hoiberg?

Cyclone Fanatic's #1 fan thinks this is how it will go down:

@IowaHawkGuy: @WideRtNattyLt That's the average term length in the NBA. No way he goes. NO WAY. He ends up as Pollard's replacement as ISU AD IMO.

I think I heard Fred once say he wanted to coach about 10 years in College then move on to the NBA as a coach or more likely a GM

@ESPNSteinLine: Been discussing Izzo/Hoiberg for some time as candidates to replace Adelman, but here's a new name I'm told interests Wolves: Billy Donovan.

Nothing seems right about the timing, the money, players we have recruited, his famiyl, etc that this will be when Fred leaves.

Which.....means he will probably be announced tomorrow as the TWolves new head coach.

My source in Minneapolis says:

"Please stop sending Flip Saunders emails.
Thank you,

I just don't see Donovan leaving FL for MN. He almost left FL for Orlando, but MN? Bill Self could be a candidate for the Knicks.

What's funny is the sarcastic freak out tweets outnumber the actual freak out tweets 100-0.

If you posted one of them, examine yourself. Quit shutting down others opinion with hyperbole before you even see it.

My two cents. I think he will leave for the NBA in 5-10 years, and wait for a good situation. His continued low NBA buyout is my main indicator, as well as my perception that Fred wants to compete at the highest level. This is not a "freak out".

Again, I don't think he'll leave for Minnesota this year, but mentioning that the coach of his former team, and the team where he was in the front office, IS relevant news, and can be discussed without the sarcastic freak out posts.

I think the buyout speaks more for the fact that he has no intention of ever leaving for another college team than it does his intention to actually leave for the NBA.

Fred could get a $500,000 buyout for both college and the NBA if he wanted. He's got the leverage.
