Personally I think anyone who thought he was leaving for Minnesota is pretty foolish. As is calling Minnesota a perfect fit.

IF...and i stress IF he was going to leave...not many better fits than Minnesota for CFH. But no i didnt think he was leaving either but my lord folks....not like its not possible since everyone under the sun in media circles is throwing his name into the ring.

So far I have got, clueless, stupid, and fake melt down posts out of this group. Way to articulate your opinion guys! I'm so impressed with your juvenile hive mind!

His opinions are "random guesses", but your statement, "He is happy at ISU and he doesn't need to jump." is obviously different because you know, right?

If you don't think personal situation, past work experience, and location matters with potential hires, then why did you guys shoot down Billy Donovan as a potential hire for those exact reasons?

Anything is possible. If you are the anything is possible guy, please go to the football forum and tell everyone about how it's possible that we go 12-0 this season.

No one is saying it's not possible, but rather how improbable and unlikely it is. Calm down.

Couple of more Tweet's from Associate Press's John K. who is pretty connected to the Timberwolves.

Couple things stand out from the Adelman/Flip press conference today. 1. Flip looking for big-time experience at head coach

Handicapping the race. I'd say Hoiberg is down the list of candidates Flip is looking for.

I'm not worried one bit about Fred leaving this year. So now I'm having all kinds of fun trolling Twolves fans on Twitter.

Do T-Wolves fan really want Hoiberg that badly? There have been plenty of very good college coaches who struggled in the pros and it's not like the fans would look back fondly at the period of time when he was in the front office. If SVG is really interested in the job, that's a pretty good option.

Yeah, I know. Some of us (read: me) have pretty good info about this situation in particular. That's why reading your garbage speculative posts get old, and you get short, curt responses. But keep posting your slop because you feel "disrespected". I don't really care what you think.

Pros:
He used to work there

Cons:
Not a FA destination
Coaches only last about 2.4 years on average so not much job security
Not many good draft picks and no top draft picks at all
Love has one year left and wants to leave
Roster is mediocre at best and is in the worst place possible, the middle of the pack.

Nobody else was going to hire FH as a coach at ISU's level or above. Absolutely nobody. ISU was the only power conference job he was going to get.

And FH doesn't need to rebuild. He will get a talented team in a good spot whenever he wants. He is happy at ISU and he doesn't need to jump.

I don't want Fred to leave as bad as all of you, but I think to discount the possibility of him going to Minnesota is shortsighted, although apparently someone is now saying he isn't going-- which is great. He's obviously contemplated going to the NBA as you can tell by the buyout. He's close with Flip Saunders. He's familiar with the organization. His family is familiar with the MSP area. Also, the Wolves were 40-42. While that's not great, they are far from the worst team in the league. and I will admit I know nothing about the salary cap or any of that. It's not as though there aren't reasons why he would take the job...

Why do you think Minnesota is one of the best fits for Hoiberg, and which jobs would be better fits?

Again, just because he used to work there doesn't mean he wants to go there.

And being .500 in the NBA is the worst position in sports. No good draft picks and no success. Minnesota can't sign FAs either with any success because nobody wants to go to MN.

RE: Recruiting grind

I know you put a jimlad but I would actually like to point out that the NBA is a much bigger grind than college.

The NBA still has another month left in the season. It is so much longer than college it is crazy. And the NBA champ will probably play 60 more games than the college champ, and those games are each 8 minutes longer than the college game and there are many more cross country flights in that season.

I completely agree with you. I wouldn't want to coach NBA over college, but obviously our mindset is not shared by all, as college coaches make the jump from time to time.

OMG I'm so impressed, do you clean the gym, and heard a conversation this morning?

There were no garbage speculative posts. There were garbage posts by you saying 100% he's not leaving, when that wasn't the argument anyone was making.

You speculating about the Hoibergs "liking celebrity" probably one of the dumbest things I've read on this forum.

Nice work, only 122 posts in.

Let me be clear, I do think there is a chance in the future that FH leaves for the NBA.

It will just be for a better job than Minnesota if he goes. That's all. Minnesota is actually probably in the lower third of NBA jobs right now.

I wonder if Fred had any interest in the Timberwolves job, How can he be doing any of these in home visits with a clear conscience? He has been doing a lot recently, so that is why I don't think he is going anywhere.

I agree with this too. It ranks low in terms of ability to win, and our "speculation" is that past work connections, and location make it a more likely landing location than probably any other NBA job.

That only makes sense if nobody else wanted him. He is a very hot name in coaching and can afford to wait for a better situation. He doesn't need contacts to get a job anymore. Would you go work at your high school summer grocery job because the boss is still the same?

Ahh, the old grocery store hyperbole. I think we overestimate Fred's image nationally. I don't think for example he will be in the running for the Knicks or Lakers jobs this summer (or probably any of the other open positions, probably including t-wolves.) But with T-wolves he is obviously more likely to get a call/inquiry.
