Pizza in Council Bluffs suckes. If I had to pick my favorite, It would probably be Pizza King or Barleys. I had the Other place for the first time ever last Thanksgiving, and cannot believe that it is getting votes. I thought it was terribly over rated!

Casey's Breakfast Pizza (bacon) is legit.
Crust I like Pizza Huts thin crust. Really crispy.

Omaha- Roman coin pizza and Zio's are my favorites.

Roman coin is good (I live a block away from one), but if your going all time best pizza no way.

I went to Pizza King for the first time maybe a month ago, place was legit and REALLY good, although I didn't have pizza.

I love these statewide “best ofâ€￾ threads.

It is like….there are 1,025 pizza places in the entire state of Iowa. I’ve eaten at 25 of them or 2% of available pizza options in the state…mostly around the same general geographical area . Because of this, I can confidently say XXX pizza is the best pizza in the state of Iowa!

Is it just me or do we have a "best pizza" thread every couple months? Obviously my vote is for Happy Joes but the exact pizza would have to be my own inventention, the WGP (world's greatest pizza). I would make it for lunch buffets and announce it over the loud speaker as we brought it out. Deep dish Italian sausage, with extra sauce, extra cheese, crushed red pepper and a bunch of hand sliced peperoncinis.

Mine was better... BBQ beef with pickles and jalapeno's.

Are you talking about The Other Place in Cedar Falls? They are major contributors to the "reduce the amount of dough and call it thin-crust" phenomenon I described earlier. Thin-crust pizza should be cut in squares and look like this...

...not this...

That last picture is not thin-crust pizza. It's a floppy layer of soggy dough being crushed by far too much cheese and greasy meat.

You've got more expertise than any other "Best of" List on the Internet. :twitcy:

Ooh, that is interesting. We'll have to try it. Ankeny seems to have some pretty solid pizza options.

Has anyone tried the new pizzas at Okoboji Grill? They have stuff like a crab rangoon pizza, but I just am having trouble bringing myself to try it.

Crab rangoon pizza sounds, well, interesting. If anyone tries it, I am interested in hearing your review.

I'm no world traveler, but I've noticed that specialty pizzas with non-traditional toppings seems pretty unique to Iowa. I've seen taco pizza in other places, but not nearly as much as I do here. I've never seen BLT pizza outside of the state, thankfully. Sauerkraut pizza, bacon cheeseburger pizza, barbecue chicken pizza, and so on seem far more common here than they do elsewhere.

I think it's a lot of fun. Some pizzas are disgusting, like the BLT, but some are surprisingly good, like a Thai pizza I had once. Something I've never seen and would love to try is a muffaletta pizza, made like the sandwich. Salami, ham, olive spread, mozzarella, and provolone on a muffaletta crust.

"Specialty" pizzas are definitely hit or miss. The gyro pizza at Jeff's in Ames is good, for example. But you're right, there are also ones that are just terrible.

We went to Okoboji Grill today, and it looks like maybe their pizza is from Community Tap in Ft. Dodge (which used to be excellent, but has suffered in recent years). One of the ones on their menu that looked just terrible was the equivalent of a Big Mac, complete with Thousand Island dressing. I don't think I can even try that, it sounds terrible.

About time someone brought up Fong's. If you are looking for something different, they are the best! Although personally I prefer the Thai Chicken pizza.

Fong's is fantastic, if you have been drinking for a while before you eat. But totally sober, it is good, but not fantastic.
