Based on the immaturity of many people on this board, it would be abused by many of the most active posters on the site based on the attitude that gets taken when someone suggests they don't contribute anything to a thread.

Limit certain functions, like Neg rep and votes for a Troll Indicator, to members who have reached a certain level. Or let it be a function that can be turned on/off by Mods. It isn't that hard to control the fiesty teenagers and annoying trolls.

Hey guys, I'm working on a solution to replace the prior "Like" functionality and need some feedback on the specific aspects of it you liked the most (i.e. just being able to give a like, seeing who else liked a post, seeing the overall stats, etc).

Please take a second to give constructive feedback on how you would like to see it make a comeback.

FYI - The more jokes and non-serious responses I have to wade through in this thread, the less time I have to work on the actual solution:cool:

Just gave Rep to Jeremy for taking our requests so seriously and moving on this so quickly. It shows what kind of community and community leadership we have on Cyclone Fanatic.

On a related note, I saw a thread on Hawkeye Nation last night while enjoying the meltdown. All of about 4 people even noticed that their "Like" function disappeared and nobody really cared to talk about it. Maybe they are "above" it. Or maybe they really aren't much of a community and don't have a very "like-able" forum. I read one post last night where somebody begged to not be banned for posting a relevant picture! JM must be like an evil babysitter.

Great job guys with CF. If we ever have any complaints, just go over to some of the other sites for a few minutes and you recognize how great we have it.

I agree that it would get abused by the population of CF, and if something this was created I would rather it be left to the discretion of the mod team.

You'd essentially be asking to limit its function to exclude many posters that registered after 2010.

This is what I've been saying. Look how crazy people already get about dumb stuff like post counts, rep, and starting official threads. Or think back to Saturday when what's his name went on his little tear through the forums because people called him out on his negative posts. Why add to that?

Also, I know it wasn't probably by choice, but I think it's hilarious that you guys are messing around with features in the middle of march madness.

So, make the limit to be Level 78.

There are lots of idiots on this site with high levels/post counts. There are also lots of good posters with low post counts/levels because they only post when they actually have something to say.

One of the worst posters in the history of this site had one of the highest post counts, highest level, and him and his buddies were all there. Many of them are still here.

I was replying to someone at Level 79. So also let Mods turn on/off features. There are only a few people who would need to be "kept under control." We have great Mods, especially compared with other sites. They know what to let go and what to control.

I think I liked mostly being able to give likes, then taking them away really fast.

The ease of the one-click "like" is really nice. However, it might be good to have some limits on its use to prevent overuse and abuse.

Don't like the way the thumbs up turns to a red thumbs down when you click on the green thumbs up. It makes it look like you have 1 thumbs down. Perhaps you should have both green and red until one is clicked. Then both could go faded, but a count of both green thumbs up and red thumbs down would show.

or just have it stay that neutrally gray background color and turn green when clicked

Numbers of thumbs up/down needs a way to show usernames of voters.

I like it when the "like" feature doesn't display unless you go looking for it. It makes it much more meaningful. A bold thumbs up draws too much attention to itself.
