Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

It's easy to be upset with RV, but I can't imagine this can be easy on him. Over the course of 4-5 years I'm sure he's grown close with Fred and Matt, and I imagine it's hard to let them know you're not going with them. It's alot to put on an 18 year old plate.

Good luck to Vaughn.

The staff gave it everything they had, we should be proud of them. It just wasn't to be.

Agree. We should be proud of our staff. I bet Fred is bummed and we need to support him and staff. They did all they could.

It would make sense if UNLV wasn't so terrible at the game of basketball.

This reminds me of when Melvin committed and Barnes went to UNC. Hopefully the same happens if Melvin Clark commits (haven't heard anything recently, still recruiting him?)

I think he is an 18 year old kid that wants to play ball with his buddy. Can't blame him for that. Hopefully for him Rice can do a better job of coaching next year as they are a wreck this year. UNLV fans can have fun talking about "next year" while we play for our NCAA seed. Lord knows as Clone fans we have talked about "next year" in the McD era and it is not fun.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

I don't mean to rag on RV, but this decision, if it is UNLV, just says a lot about him as a basketball player IMO, and it's not positive.

It means he'd rather play in the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas for one year and not have to be concerned at all about school. It means he doesn't want to challenge himself against the best in the country or he would have gone to UNC, KU, or ISU. He will play absolutely NOBODY in that conference and not get challenged against good competition.

I can understand why a high school kid would want to play in Las Vegas. There's tons to do out there besides basketball. The weather is great too. And they probably will be good too, but who wouldn't in that conference?

This whole thing just kind of stinks when you really look at it. Even the prep school he goes to is just slimy as can be. But this is what college athletics has become. He probably won't have to even open up a text book at UNLV, just like at Findlay. It will only be about basketball, fame, and fortune.

Oh well. He missed out IMO, not us. He could have played for Fred Hoiberg, but he choose not to. He could have challenged himself against the best competition in the country, but he choose not to. That's his choice. Nobody will hear of him again until he's in the NBA because UNLV is NEVER on TV anywhere. Good luck to him. Time for Fred to move on and replace him.

Not getting a McDonald's all american sucks but next year's team is loaded anyway. I'm hoping Thomas develops over the summer into the consistent threat from 3 we need and with Niang, McKay, Nader, Hogue and Monte we will have a solid, solid nucleus. Would've been nice to get Vaughn but on the same token we didn't need him either. Nice to be at a point in the program where Vaughn was a want and not an absolute need.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

Let's be honest, it will be a hell of a lot easier for a "one and done" player to look great in a ****** conference than in the Big 12. Seriously, I think that the thought of him having to play against elite talent night in and night out helped make his decision. If college isn't about improving or staying four years, then go where it's easy to improve your stock and jump ship, ie UNLV. It's not 1987 anymore, players want money and that want it when they're 18 years old. Playing Kansas might not have helped his stock, ask Marcus Smart!

Yeah, we are still recruiting him. There is an article in the Recruit thread about him. He is looking to make a decision in mid-March.

Couldn't decide on the better nut-kick pic, so I'm posting them both.

Wish him luck on Twitter, state you are a Cyclone and unfollow. This will not be the last time Fred will be in the top 2 for a big time recruit. He'll actually sign several, stay positive. We've got a program on the rise! Let me mayor coach!
