Re: Rashad Vaughn

Just a note to RV if he is reading this, when evaluating what ISU is doing on the court this year please take it easy on us, this is a rebuilding year after all. Things should be better when you get on campus next fall.

Open letter?

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Guys I am really confused. Unlv fan told me that they get all sorts of national exposure and their new tv contract with espn will have them on tv all the time. Yet I haven't been able to see the Scott Drew of the west and his rag tag bunch play yet this year, and I see that they only have one game on espn2 (10pm Wednesday tip off here in Minnesota). I thought Vaughn would have all kinds of national exposure and diners, drive-ins, and dives university.

I'll help you out. UNLV plays on CBSsports at 8PM vs Nevada. At least a small part of the nation will be able to see who wins state bragging rights, or something.

Guessing the UNLV Staff is probably hoping RV doesn't tune into this game. No reason to remind him they play Mountain West team in January on a channel you need to search for.

A small part like what got to watch us last night or will be able to this Monday? Because that is basically what they were on here saying a few months ago. I honestly believe the only thing Vaughn sees in UNLV is their signed recruits coming in. I think he has a good relationship with those guys, otherwise every check mark in the ISU UNLV comparison goes on the cardinal and gold side.

cbssports would cost me $30 more a month to get here in the twin cities, I can't believe many households get it.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Yeah, and I bet no one has ever done it before on the first Tuesday of the month when the ambient temperature is below -10 degrees.
Kane had a great game, but you are being nuts. Kane is only the fourth player since '96 to have at least 30 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals. Neat stat, but there are several ways to have a great game- arbitrary thresholds mean little. A guy having at least 25 points, 9 rebounds, and dishing out a few assists is also a great game, and has probably been done hundreds of times.

To say Vaughn has an all-around game is a stretch because he is playing high-schoolers? Yeah, you never see high school recruits turn out to have all-around games.
Many top rated guards have all-around games. Funny how that works.

In regards to Vaughn not being a pg, are you not familiar with Hoiberg's teams? Did you not see how many minutes Kane played with Morris tonight?
There is a difference between being a pg and playing pg. I remember when there was concern about how Kane would do as the lead guard since he was not labeled (by some) as a pg. Vaughn, like Kane, can be a lead guard for a coach like Fred while having less opportunities as a sg elsewhere.

Well in fact the other 3 guys that had that stat line all did it with an overtime. It is a was well balanced game and a dominating performance and one that was uncommonly good. While I generally agree with type in any performance by any other player in the Hoiberg era and see if you get one that uniquely special. Won't happen.

Agreed... I doubt someone with the twitter handle of @MrShowtime had dreams of playing in empty arenas around the Rockies foothills on channels people have to guess if they have in high school. Then you have the whole UNLV just lost to Air Force last time out fan empathy that should be setting in. But that is just my opinion.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

The Rebs will likely lose their next two games too. New Mexico and SDSU on the road, lose both of those and they are 10-8 overall and 1-4 in conf, with four straight losses. Reb fans starting to get anxious about the ability of Dave Rice?

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Garret plays for the Jazz I'm pretty sure. I guess if they had an off day in Minnesota or something he might make a quick trip. Probably not possible with his schedule though. Tinsley just got waived in November so I guess he might. So far the people who have been back this year that I know of are Rahshon Clark and Royce White.

Anthony Booker was present for last night's game

Bubu also comes to all the games. I sit right next to him. It actually makes me really sad to see him watching the team that he could be playing on.

Vaughn Stats this year
Pt's- 21.1
Assists-4.9
Rebounds-4.7
Steals-2.6

Kane
Pts-16.1
Assists-6.3
Rebounds-7.1
Stealsl-1.5

I'm sorry but for a high schooler none of those stats are mind blowing and to think that those won't all drop dramatically is being ignorant. Kane is averaging higher rebounds and assists against better competition and 21 points per game in high school isn't close to what the elite high school pro prospects put up. I am familiar with Fred and his pg system and he's tried it with multiple SG's before and it hasn't worked out some of the time(Christopherson, Allen). There is a huge difference between being someone that can get an offense started and being a PG. You have to be able to facilitate. Kane is a scoring PG that can play a SG. Same with morris. It's a heck of a lot harder to go from a SG to a PG. Niang has brought up the ball. Do you consider him a PG or someone that just happened to bring the ball up the court?

Fred's offense>random prep school/random high school/random juco/random anybody else.

It doesn't matter one iota about "mind blowing" or "drop dramatically" when you have a coach that gets you in the right spots to succeed.

Those stats are closer than I expected. Good to see. Some may go up, but other will go down. Why? Because of Hoiberg and his ISU teammates. Look at Kane, do you think CUSA is better than the Big 12? Must be because some of his numbers have gone up, right?

Again, no one is saying he will average that or more in all of those categories, but that does not mean you do not have an all-around game, nor does it mean you will not have a few games where you do meet those marks. Like I said before, RV would likely would be a better shooter, score more points, but not be quite as good in rebounds and assists. You are being a stat idiot. Let's say a player scores 27, has 7 assists, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals. That too is a great game. Yet it ruins your whole "only been done 4 times" thing.

You are too in love with pg and sg labels. Kane is a lead guard. When Morris is not in with him, he brings the ball up the court, but at times does struggle with pressure. Comparing Georges to RV is silly. But to that point, if Georges is able to be out there bringing the ball up the court at times and facilitating the offense, RV will have no trouble playing the lead guard role. There would be a lot of minutes like we saw in the second half against Baylor- except instead of Morris and Kane, it would be Morris and RV.

Anthony Booker was also at the big 4 classic…as ISU's 3-point contest representative. Too bad Scotty is smashing brews in Siberia right now (thats a joke, Im not sure where he is right now, but know at one point he was in Russia) (also sorry for derailing the thread for the 4000th time)
