A male body believed to be that of an Iowa State University student was found hanging this morning near a laundry room in Wilson Hall. No foul play is suspected at this time. ISU Police are not releasing the deceased man's name, pending family notification. The Division of Criminal Investigation and the state crime laboratory are assisting ISU Police.

Very sad. Why did they feel the need to specify the manner of death? I think people can put it together that it is likely either suicide or natural causes, and not need to know the descriptive details.

Leave some privacy, for the family at least.

What is ISU's policy on reusing the dorm room for future use when stuff like this happens? When I was in the dorms I heard of dorm rooms being sealed shut when a student took their life in them.

I thought it said it was near one of the dorm's laundry rooms?

I think the sealing is a widely accepted myth, but I have no knowledge. 2nd...this was near a laundry room, so not the situation here anyway.

As an old fart to the college age people on here, those who have graduated from college can I'm sure all tell you a time where we thought there was no hope. But no matter the reason why, (some noble, some not) we got thru the rough patch and it got better. Maybe not the same, maybe our path diverted, but later on, the rough time (although not completely gone from our minds) has been put behind us, and we're much happier now and the idea that there was no hope seems so ridiculous.

I'm saying this watching my wife and 1 year old take a nap, and my 3 year old watching cartoons on the Ipod that was formerly mine, but has been claimed by him.

Nothing is so bad that I'd ever give that up. There is always hope.

So very sad. This is such a stressful age. Two of my sons attended funerals for high school friends who had taken their lives last year. Family and friends in my thoughts and prayers.

It seems so important that during the tough times you don't let yourself get isolated (where those around you don't even know how tough it is for you).

My lecture went quiet this morning when the professor mentioned this and some kid responded, loudly: "Freshmen take dead week way too serious."

As for dorms being sealed up, I think they just do it for the school year. Had a buddy who lived on 4th floor Friley and his CA told him that one of the rooms on the floor was sealed up because a student had taken there life, but it had been opened since.

Plus, with how bad our student housing situation is, we probably CAN'T seal off dorms anymore.

Jeez, I wish we had an experience machine for these kinds of things and we could show these poor kids just how little all this stress they feel now means in the scope of their life. I remember so many things seeming like the end of the world to me, even more so in High School. Then now, 20 years later after lay-offs, mortgages, kids, just thinking how silly it was that I even concerned myself with the stuff I did.

Don't get me wrong, I know to an 18 year old, it's all relative and it does seem like the end, but I just wish there was a way we could prove to them that their whole life is still ahead of them.

Very sad.

My oldest attended a very academically competitive school and over an 8 month span, there were 3 suicides, 2 students in his dorm. I talked to him about it and he told me not to worry, he loved himself too much to ever do that. It was kind of a flip statement, but it made me feel a little better. My kids are at a tough age to be a parent, so many different things to worry about. Somehow it now seems like teething, potty training, sleep deprivation were all a piece of cake in comparison.

I'm the same way. Sometimes I even love myself twice a day, wouldn't even have time to plan anything else.
