I think the sealing is a widely accepted myth, but I have no knowledge. 2nd...this was near a laundry room, so not the situation here anyway.

As an old fart to the college age people on here, those who have graduated from college can I'm sure all tell you a time where we thought there was no hope. But no matter the reason why, (some noble, some not) we got thru the rough patch and it got better. Maybe not the same, maybe our path diverted, but later on, the rough time (although not completely gone from our minds) has been put behind us, and we're much happier now and the idea that there was no hope seems so ridiculous.

I'm saying this watching my wife and 1 year old take a nap, and my 3 year old watching cartoons on the Ipod that was formerly mine, but has been claimed by him.

Nothing is so bad that I'd ever give that up. There is always hope.

Absolutely. Could not have said it better myself.

Jeez, I wish we had an experience machine for these kinds of things and we could show these poor kids just how little all this stress they feel now means in the scope of their life. I remember so many things seeming like the end of the world to me, even more so in High School. Then now, 20 years later after lay-offs, mortgages, kids, just thinking how silly it was that I even concerned myself with the stuff I did.

Don't get me wrong, I know to an 18 year old, it's all relative and it does seem like the end, but I just wish there was a way we could prove to them that their whole life is still ahead of them.

Very sad.

Uhh...I think the point is supposed to make it seem better in the future...

While this may be true, never tell that to someone who is depressed. Minimalizing their issues and telling them that things are only going to get way worse probably isn't the way to go.

I'm not saying that's what you're saying. Your post just made me think of what many people say to people who are depressed.

I'm the same way. Sometimes I even love myself twice a day, wouldn't even have time to plan anything else.

So what you are saying is masturbating twice a day is the key to happiness?!?!??! :wideeyed:

While this is true, No one will ever know this persons struggle; Racking up student loans, poor job markets, trying to work to support family and themselves. There are a lot of things that are stressful on today's college student that shouldn't be.

It is a sad reality when someone decides they cant take it anymore.

There was a hanging in freddy over the summer, an Asian woman.. Can't even imagine what kind of pressure some of those students receive from home.

Sad deal.

A little shocked that we're two pages into the thread and no one has brought up the Smiley Face Killers yet. We had a heck of a thread going on them the last time a student died.

My son had to deal with a suicide in a dorm room during his stint as a hall director at one of the satellite campuses of U of Wisconsin. There's all kinds of training that he went through, all kinds of training he put his RA's through...but you're never really prepared for the actual event, and how each of the remaining students will process the event.

I think there was a kid found dead (from natural causes) in top floor of Friley about 10 plus years ago. He was dead for awhile (like a week) and nobody knew anything until someone noticed the smell.

I wonder what happened to that room he died in?
