And that doesn't put another officer in danger how? If the truck starts backing up as the officer is getting ready to ram it that officer's car is going to be wearing the truck and the officer is going to be in danger.

I don't see why they shot the kid. Should have just let him drive all over campus. What's the worst that could have happened?

didn't they try pulling him over near Jack Trice? So really, the followed him from Jack Trice to Lincoln Way on Beach, which is what, .2 miles, and he runs a red light and his trailer unhitches and he's driving like a ******* on the biggest undergrad campus in the state. You're response is to let him go, because you know his identity?

According to the Rag, it was what Ames PD dispatch told him: "A few seconds later, the officer, who is not identified, says: 'He blew the stoplight . . . he lost the trailer.' At that point, the unidentified police staffer tells the officer: 'If he's that reckless coming into the college area, why don't you back off.' Moments later, the police staffer again suggests the officer cut off the pursuit: 'We know the suspect. We can probably back if off.' On the audio, there's no indication the officer responded . . ."
You should feel bad if you think this is evidence of cops gone rogue. All it tells us is the cops had all the necessary information when assessing the risk to the public.
Actually, I don't think that at all. But the post I was quoting said that posters saying that perhaps the pursuit should have ended at that point are "messed up." I was pointing out that if such a view is "messed up," it appears to be shared by someone with Ames PD. I just don't think it is as clearcut as everyone on both sides is making it out to be. So no, you are not going to make me "feel bad."

That doesn't tell us either of those things. It tells us that the information was transmitted - not that it was understood at the time.
If you've not tried communicating via radio during a stressful situation that may not make sense.
It says when clicking on the audio that "audio has been edited," and it's from the RAG. They're going to twist things that help them find stories.

As a police officer I have been involved in a vehicle chase where we boxed in the suspects truck. The suspect then rammed my car pushing it out of the way and the chase continued.
When someone shows they have no regard for the life or safety of others a decision must be made on how to eliminate that threat for the safety of others.
We can all sit around and debate for days what could have or should have happened. The officers involved didn't get that luxury.

That would be correct - but it changes the meaning of your previous statement.
The "had" implies that it was heard, understood, and considered. "were given" implies that the information was transmitted and nothing more - and that is a big difference.

Unless your suggesting the officer or dispatcher(I assume) were negligent in communicating that information it makes absolutely zero difference.

Ugh. I was kind of hoping both the deceased's family and the cop were avoiding the internet. So many harsh things being said about people on both sides.
Looks like she might be seeking a little too much attention from her Facebook account. You can never say a "if I was in that position" statement because this is so rare but I would probably lay low on this stuff especially if there is the possibility of litigation.
