I'd be surprised if this wasn't a topic at some point so apologize. I was having a discussion last night with friends about movies people love, won a ton of awards, are popular that you just don't like. Curious what some of you have in mind as overrated movies. Note if you think a movie is overrated it doesn't necessarily mean you think it's a bad movie.

I will get blasted on one of mine. So be it.

Avatar. At the time it came out, I thought it was good. But I have never seen it again, nor do I really care to. Special effects are incredible for sure. If it would have ended up winning Best Picture I think it would be looked at as one of the ten worst Best Picture winners. IMO.

The Sixth Sense. I hate this movie and guessed the twist early on.

Forrest Gump. Good movie? Sure, I like it. But do not think it's a classic or anything spectacular. It beat out Pulp Fiction AND Shawshank for Best Picture as well. That's a travesty.

Top Gun. I can't stand this movie. And take a look at Tarantino and what he says is the real meaning of Top Gun in this clip from Sleep With Me. :)

Pretty much anything Star Wars. Sorry, every guy ever, the whole "local boy does good" genre has just been done way better elsewhere.

The Big Lebowski, I have watched this movie a number of times and it is never funny.

You are going to get crushed.

Also, I slightly agree with you. It has some memorable lines but it's not the masterpiece that many claim it to be.

Avatar was visually cool but a stupid movie, IMO.

I hate all the Dark Knight movies. Christian Bale's voice makes me LOL.

Remember The Titans was one of the stupidest movies I ever saw. I thought the action was laughably stupid. And when I see a guy wearing a facemask that I know wasn't invented until at least the 90's in a movie that's supposed to be taking place in 1971, stuff like that really bothers me.

There are more but these are my big ones.

I ******* love Top Gun. Don't even tell me you didn't cry when Goose died because you will be lying and we'll all know it.

Tarantino is the definition of overrated. True Romance is the only decent movie he's made. The rest is just a rehash of all the others.

"Top Gun" is definitely on my list. It had entertainment value, but I still remember the degree of hype it got in its day. No way it could hold up to the buzz.

Also agree w/ "Avatar." Enjoyable enough, but I, too, don't feel compelled to see it again.

I'll have a few others to add later when I have time .
