There are people out there who think Pulp Fiction is a better movie than Forrest Gump? I will admit I'm biased, as I think most Tarantino movies are overrated, but I can't fathom anyone thinking Pulp Fiction is better. Just not a big fan of it.

Star Wars
American Beauty (although I may need to watch it again, it's been awhile)
Say Anything
The Hangover (funny movie but people talk like it's an all time great, I don't see it)

Good one with American Beauty. At the time, I flat out loved it. Re-watched recently and found myself thinking 'this really is just an ok movie with really good acting'. Won Best Pic over another overrated movie (IMO) The Sixth Sense. But also beat out one of my favorite movies ever, The Insider.

Also agree with Hangover but I think that is because I saw it well after everyone else did so the hype was so built up. It was ok, but nothing great.

You didn't think Django Unchained or Inglorious Bastards were good? They aren't Pulp Fiction level, but I thought they were both great flicks.

I guess Tarantino is probably one of those filmmakers who you either like or you don't.

See, the thing is that I used to really like Tarantino, but here are my biggest complaints with Tarantino:

1. The ridiculous violence and gore. I mean, ridiculous and over-the-top, not even funny. The blood in Django?? You didn't watch that and think it was just stupid? And what the hell was up with the dancing horse at the end?

2. The racial slurs. Again, I think he's trying to be edgy. I don't think we all need to be PC, but he's just being offensive to try and prove he's beyond society.

3. The aforementioned genre thing. I really think he's just trying to do this to be a turd. He's done the martial arts films, a western, and a war film in his last few outings. We get it, we see what you're doing, stop trying so hard.

I just think he's way better than this, or can be. He didn't ham up True Romance, that was a visceral, gritty movie that had great dialogue and he didn't take himself too seriously.

I've seen like 2 versions at least as my girlfriend loves it and I didn't like either, despite some really good acting in both of them. I guess I just couldn't stand the plot, it never felt like it went anywhere but in circles. Everytime they started to get a little closer Darcy would say "well, I've gotta go to the City" and then we'd be back where we began again.

It's a definite subtlety, and people tend to either really like the Brit lit stuff or not. I had a focus on Brit lit in college, I love the idea that a touch of the hand meant volumes back in those days, rather than some dude grinding on a chick at the club to meet her like we do now.

Titanic. I can remember all the hype and my wife begging me to watch it. I finally relented, and mid-way through I was ready to gouge out my eyes with a dull pencil.

I'm not down on the movies in general, but I, too, found his rendition of the Batman voice incredibly distracting. I was focused more on that than what he was saying.

I remember watching a scene when he was dressed as batman talking to Morgan Freeman's character and he was still using that voice even though he is well aware of his alter ego. I LOL'd at that. But otherwise, great movie. And sorry alarson, no way batman begins was better. Better than the Dark Knight rises sure, but when I left the theatre the first time after Dark Knight, I was in awe.

Bridesmaids is the chick movie version of this. I laughed, it was funny, but it got old pretty quick.

I liked a few others, but his last two offerings have been terrible. It seems like he's just trying to show how outside of the box he is by befriending and then using racial slurs for as many groups as he can, and also that he's trying to prove how versatile he is by making movies in each genre. But they're just not good anymore.
I think Inglorious Basterds is up there with his best stuff. The opening scene alone is incredible.

1 of many reasons I hated the Kill Bill movie. I don't mind violence and gore but the over the top gore takes away from the movie

I'll throw these out there:

Slumdog Millionaire
40 Year Old Virgin

Didnt mind 40 Year Old Virgin, laughed pretty hard at that one. Slumdog was good but it was truly over hyped.

If the whole movie had been like the opening scene, I would think it was one of the best movies I've ever seen. Waltz is just amazing. But the gore was just unnecessary and took away from the actual value of the movie. The whole movie theater thing was just asinine.

Yes. Another one. There are amazing individual scenes, and some of the violence adds to it - but the scene where The Bride kills Gogo and maybe 5000 other people in that big room is just dumb. Do the scenes like O'ren Shii as a little girl, or the whole Vernita Green scene - but when you have dozens of people getting decapitated, it's just dumb.
