I work with a few KCC students (from eastern IA small towns) who live in the apt complexes near Kirkwood, and are pretty clueless about anything beyond a mile from school.

I was from a Southeast Iowa small town, but I wouldn't exactly say I was clueless about anything aside from Kirkwood. I worked for a co-op in a town 20 miles west of CR so other than classes most of my time was spent outside of the city.

If you go with my waterloo days you can through in Strugis Falls or whatever the name of the celebration is.

St. Judes Sweet Corn Festival was always a highlight of the end of the summer, nothing like eating burgers, sweet corn and pie on a nice night.

I wasn't saying my Waterloo Days was the best one, and I loved going to St. Judes Sweet Corn Fest when I was in HS. Just stating what the in town celebration was called (I honestly have no idea what Cedar Falls has), and that the one in town is fun to participate in.

I have some land near Strawberry Point,IA and they have Strawberry Days every year.
They give away free strawberries and ice cream.
I doubt anyone else in the state does that.

Is Ames still doing the festival for the stinky trees on main street? Can't remember what kind of trees, it was named after them.

Ginko Trees?

Walker, IA Pickle Days (last weekend in July)

Tama, IA Lincoln Highway Festival (sometime in May)

Oh, and how could one forget Le Claire, Iowa and Port Byron, IL's "Tugfest"

Port Byron Tug Fest

A tug of war across the Mississippi River.

I was on a Port Byron team about 10 years ago, pulling that redbull can sized rope for a couple minutes wore me out more than anything I have ever done in my life. I laid on top of the kegs in the keg wagon for half an hour to cool down. Great time, fun party that night.
