Time to lock up JP

Please stop talking about past coaches! This is a thread about Rhoads getting a long term contract, about Pollard engineering that contract, and the future of Cyclone football (not the past).
I for one love this news. Say what you want to about where ISU ranks with other BCS programs, I have watched every video of Coach Rhoads in the locker room with pride. I've seen plenty of moments that made me proud to be a Cyclone, but I would say that no coach has given me so many in such a short time as Paul has (can I call you Paul? Is that too personal?).
There is no way that you can put a negative spin on this. Jamie Pollard has done a phenomenal job in his time here (I've seen him at the hospital with his son a few times, never approached him because it seemed inappropriate, but you could see the care he had for his son) and Coach Rhoads has done nothing less than exceed expectations.
It's a great day, month, year to be a Cyclone!

What does his son (whom I hope fights through the cancer and has a full recovery) and Paul Rhoads' locker room speeches have to do with their success as a coach and AD? I'm failing to connect the 2....

I like Pollard, and I definitely want to keep him here as long as he would want to stay. But he has made some big mistakes too... specifically Greg Mcdermott and his ridiculous 10-year contract. But I think Hoiberg will show (As Rhoads already has) that he made a great choice when he had a second chance, and totally redeemed himself.

The dude isn't perfect, but he's been our best AD ever, and there really isn't an argument against it.

Such a terrible coach he's been an extremely successful coordinator at Texas and Auburn and taken Auburn to a national title as a head coach. That's turible.

In the situations where Chizik has been successful, YOU could be successful.

I'm not arguing one way or the other on the Chiz, but the situations where he's had his success are situations where anyone could. A good coach is a guy who doesn't need those luxuries to succeed. When Chizik shows he can get strong results with less than 5 star talent, I'll think more of his coaching ability.

Go back and pull Danny Mac's first 3 years (against a very weak Big12 North) and get back to us.

CPR so far into his career > Danny clap clap...any day of the week.

Now go **** off.

I didn't say he would go 0-12 or anything like that. But he's not winning more than 6-7 games here.

People forget that Florida's program has fallen apart because of him. Yeah, he won 2 national titles, but he then ran it into the ground.

you lost credibility a long time ago...but wow, just wow.

Why is that? What did I say that is so inaccurate???

We were more successful in sports that matter under BVD. Sorry, but it's true. Look at the basketball program under JP. We haven't been to the freakin' NCAA tournament since 2005 for crying out loud!

And our football program is in no better shape than with McCarney. Sorry, but it's not. Attendance is up and that's the only thing. But wins are not.

You can go crazy about all the money he raises. How much of that are you seeing, because I haven't received a penny of it?

I want to win, not raise money. Sorry if that offends you.

You bemoan our lack of resources and then say you don't care about revenue generated? Put down the crack pipe contradiction man!

I believe financial resources are more important than tradition. Money is king, period.

Hey genius, he ran the Florida program into the ground. That's why he left. Everyone knows that.

Florida went 7-5 last year, 6-6 this year, and they won't do any better next year.

He told Muschamp "it's a dead program" when he got hired. You know this, right???

Did Florida get driven into the ground or did the teams they're playing against take it to a new level?

I mean this genuinely: Welcome back!!!

Ah yes, because being a good coordinator automatically means you're going to be a successful head coach.
Bad coaches don't win national championships. That is a very select group, whether you will admit it or not.

That's where we disagree. Scott Drew has all the talent in the world at his disposal, as does Rick Barnes, and they do next to nothing with it. Bill Self has a lot of talent on the floor but the guy can coach. Even their "down" years they field a Sweet 16 caliber team. They haven't been the most talented team in the Big 12 the last 10 years every year, but they win the damn conference every year because the guy leading the charge is a hell of a head coach. Talent means nothing if there isn't someone running the show. In the long run, I think Chizik would've produced results like we've seen out of Coach Rhoads thus far.

JP has said he will leave when his work is done. He is getting closer but until they break ground for the SEZ and Hilton gets its upgrade, I don't think he will go anywhere.

I like the sound of that.... at Iowa State the work is never done and ISU more of a need then most other places for an AD with his particular set of skills. The guy is sharp, motivated, and is always finding new and creative ways of generating funds for the athletic department by keeping the stands full and the donations increasing. ISU was in desperate need of the leadership that he continues to provide.

Don't be so sure, going undefeated in the SEC is a bigger feat than many on here would like to admit. Even if you have talent to compete in that conference. He did it once as a DC, and then again as a HC. I'll give him his props, I don't like him, but I'm not going to let my common sense get in the way of my emotions.

Edit: Reverse that last part
