Wasn't he an OC for about 6 games or so at Auburn before he was run outta town? He had no time to get the right players in, or even get the current players to be ALL IN....I don't think he'd have that problem at ISU

The players hated him, built no chemistry with them and had major locker room issues according to a former starting o-line player who attended my church.

Of course, CPR is going to know better than any of us the situation surrounding him at Auburn.

Thats what Im saying. We dont know a ton about the guy. Rhoads would know more than we would. We cant use the scheme under Tubs as a good indicator.

I hope we get a guy nobody has ever heard of who has his own new offense. (Think Oregon, Texas Tech, etc.)

I like frost mainly because I love the Oregon offense. I would like to see him come in and use the 2 back sets with the misdirection runs to help us confuse the defense.

But I wouldn't be mad about getting Franklin. I just prefer a run first based spread.

Curt what have you heard about Herman? Was he forced out or was it his decision to move on?

Re: ***Offensive Coordinator Search Thread***

The irony is that everyone thought that for us to compete in the B12 we would need a gimmick and the spread offense was brought in to give ISU that "edge". Now with the spread being ubiquitous having a pro style offense would be the "gimmick" offense in the B12.

The spread offense isn't a gimmick Gary Danielson.

Ah not with a freshman qb who has come along really well with the zone read first offense. Plus Barnett ran it in high school.

Mangino is very intriguing - was he directly responsible for a lot of recruiting while @ KU - or did he have some key assistants who did this?
Thought Barnett reminded me of Reesing (even before some announcer said it during 1 of the games) in that he was same size, elusive, & had a knack for delivering the ball (Barnett would have to improve on his accuracy for sure to get to where Reesing was / Reesing had Briscoe, Meier among others catching his passes, but let's not get derailed there)
Also, was Mangino a presence in Texas?

Apparently this Franklin has ties in Texas - not quite the resume as an offensive mind directly at the D1 level like Mangino, but that did not seem to hinder Art Briles.

Frost was an option quarterback but has been in coaching for a decent amount of time & has been with a program which has recently moved to the elite status. Has he acquired the knowledge from this experience to be an effective OC like we would need him to be?

He coached their bowl game and won with little time to switch the team over to spread. The next season they started 4-2 and he got canned. They only won 1 more game that year and now everyone in the SEC says a spread offense just doesn't work in the SEC.

Re: ***Offensive Coordinator Search Thread***

Because getting to say you learned from Urban Meyer for a couple years sounds better than getting let go at ISU for perpetually finishing near the bottom of Big 12.

I bet you were the happiest guy in the world yesterday weren't you?

Re: ***Offensive Coordinator Search Thread***

Mods, can we combine this thread with the one CW started, so all the OC talk is in one thread? It's a bit tiring having to go back and forth.
