I didn't see this posted, but a new depth chart came out today. A ton of good stuff in it.
1.) Who the heck is Reid Branderhorst at TE?
2.) Last years OL class is heavy in the two deep. Good to see and high expectations for that group.
3.) Tiller, Jantz, Capello, Barnett at QB in that order
4.) No Lattimer (we need him).
5.) Laing is ahead of Jake at DT. Nelson behind everyone at DE.
6.) Benton at SS and Washington at FS. Good to see Benton moved.
Fall can't come soon enough.
Nelson was scout team player of the year last year, so that shows that the team definitely thinks he is a good player.
I hope Neal is expected to lose his job to Lattimer when he comes back. That would turn our defensive front into a solid set. If Nelson can start to prove himself in practive, I suspect you will see him rotating with Maggitt, since they are both undersized, and provide the same skills on the field.
I agree, this will be one of ISUs best defenses in recent memory and will be one of the best in the Big 12.I'm thinking the D will step it up and have a great year. We're stacked at LB (at least the starters). Corners should be quite good, and I'm ecstatic to see Benton moved to SS, and I think Washington will hold his own at FS. They won't be as good as Sims in run support, but may cover better. I also think the DL will surprise some people. A lot of those guys, even if they're not the most talented, have a good deal of experience and should improve. Of course, a few injuries and we will be in trouble (knocking on wood).
On offense, the biggest questions are QB and WR. The RBs are young but talented. The OL needs to fill a couple of holes but there is experience and talent there. Everyone knows about QB....if we don't get play at that spot that is better than Tiller was last year (and yes, Tiller could make a big improvement so I'm not ruling him out), then we are in trouble. The WRs (at least starters) are experienced, but haven't shown that they can get it done consistently at a high level. It will be fun to watch the 2nd string WRs in the spring since we haven't seen to much of them, good or bad.
Time will tell......
Not saying you are wrong but more times than not players that are scout team players of the year never end up doing anything at ISU.

Patrick Neal is first string LE and second string RE. Does that mean they are expecting Nelson to rise up the depth chart? I don't understand having a starter on one side and the backup on the other. In the video Nelson looks like a thicker but quicker Maggitt. I would not be suprised to have Maggitt and Nelson starting at end even with Lattimer back.
Laing starting over McDonough is not surprising if you watched them at the end of the year.
Bob Graham at Center is interesting.
Albert Gary, Jarvis West, Donnie Jennert at second string WR. I want to see all of those guys play.
CAN NEAL PLAY STARTER AT BOTH POSITIONS AT THE SAME TIME? DUH!
NO KIDDING. EVEN AN IDIOT LIKE MIKE MCCARTHY KNOWS THAT!
WHY ARE WE YELLING!!!!
I think that by the time the season starts (or more like after Latt's one game suspension), we're going to see a nice four man rotation at DE...Lattimer and Maggitt starters, Nelson and Neal backups who will see plenty of time. I think that all four will be at or near 250 lbs by the time the season rolls around. I'm not sold on the depth behind those four, though. Scott is tiny and I think that Kron is an eventual DT. They really could have used Steve Dillon to commit, as I think he could have gotten a lot of snaps at ISU as a true FR. Looks to me like they'll need another JC DE in the 2012 class.

I'm still hoping Irving will be ahead of Neal. Not gonna happen though.
It's not that I think Irving will be that good his first year, I just think Neal is that bad.Hold off on your expectations of Irving. He has tons of potential and a great frame to work with... but he's basically a project. He is NOT going to play this year IMO. No chance.
Everyone is all excited because he's 6'7" and 250+ lbs, but there's a LOT more to playing DE than that. He will have a pretty steep learning curve IMO. I'm just hoping he can develop into a starting DE for us by the time he's a RS Soph. That would be his 3rd year here. I think those are more realistic expectations.
