Off the top of my head, I'm guessing the top three will be Iowa '02, Iowa '05, and Nebraska '09. All were wonderful in their own way.

I'm guessing those 3 will rank fairly high.

Here were my top 10 — partly guessing what Wide Right would do, mostly my own ranking — I expected the Tech game to rank higher because of The Run, and the stature that team reached with the win, pre-collapse; I would've placed that game 11th-15th. Three of these have already been listed on their countdown

10: ISU 14, Minnesota 13 (2009)
9: ISU 34, Nebraska 27 (2004)
8: ISU 31, Tech 17 (2002
7: ISU 23, Iowa 3 (2005)
6: ISU 36, Iowa 31 (2002)
5: ISU 42, A&M 14 (2005)
4: ISU 36, Nebraska 14 (2002)
3: ISU 37, KSU 23 (2004)
2: ISU 9, Nebraska 7 (2009)
1: ISU 37, Pitt 28 (2000)

They should make one tiny exception and extend the dates just a tad to include the 1998 Iowa game. Man that was awesome!
Hey, they included an entire season as one "loss", so we can bend the rules again for this list too right??!

I let it go on Part 2, but you did it again in Part 3. The fullback touchdown machine's name was Ryan KOCK. Respect him by getting his name right.

Besides, it makes your jokes funnier.

sonofa, that's twice now - are we going to have to start proofreading these? lame:cool:

that's a good list. I still think the 2001 game vs Iowa will be on there somewhere. Game was moved to the end of the year due to 9/11, some big defensive plays to save the game, and Pete Taylor said it was maybe the most important game played in the series since the series resumed. How can it not be? Your lit is a tough one though.

That run doesn't get near the love it should because of the other one. But it was about equally as impressive. Too bad no one was completely destroyed with a crack back block on this one!

I agree. Great run. I found this today also. Not sure if it's been posted at some point or not. Definitely a sweet win.

I had Iowa '01 in my second 10, which means it'll be somewhere 5th-10th, I'd guess ... partly because of the postponement.

I hope they use the headline "Delay of Game" for that one.

If I remember correctly, in that 2005 23-3 game, Iowa didnt even breach our 25 yard-line. The entire game. Man that was a good Cyclone defense.
2005 is defintitely the season that "could-have-been....."

I had the privilege to be in Kinnick for that come from behind win in 2002. That first half was one of the worst couple hours of my life, but that second half was without a doubt one of the best. Doing that to them in their own house was just amazing. And then after the fact to look back and know it cost them an undefeated season makes it even better.

I was tailgating at Kinnick that year but didn't have a game ticket. We had some Squwaks at our tailgate. One of my buddy's wives (who other than 1. being a hawk fan and 2. being a former hawkeye football cheerleader is usually pretty nice) started talking smack big time during the 2nd quarter and half time. During the Cyclone comeback in the second half we never said a word. Everytime the Cyclones scored or recovered a turnover, we would just look at her, smile and nod our heads. To this day, she says she will NEVER talk smack at an I/ISU football game again.

There is something very satisfying about a Hawk regularly bringing up that game.

Ok, I just got caught up on #20 - #6 and of course I have comments

First of all, let me assume that the top 5 tomorrow (In no particular order) will be ...

2000 Insight.com Bowl vs. Pittsburgh (37 - 29)
2002 vs. #20 Nebraska (36-14)
2009 at Nebraska (9-7)
2005 vs. #22 Colorado (30-16)
2000 at Iowa (24-14)

... I don't think I'm ruining any surprise. If those aren't the top five, someone needs to be shot, fired or forced to become a hawk fan.

Games that I think are ranked too low ...

8. 2002 at Iowa (36-31)
I had this one easily in my top five. Granted, the hawks weren't ranked at the time but they were obviously very good (undefeated in BigTen, Orange Bowl vs. USC) and when you put in the second half comeback it is easily in the top five. I put this one ahead of the 2000 win at Iowa because 1.) Iowa was better, 2.) it was an amazing comeback, and 3.) it was on primetime ESPN.

6. 2005 vs. #8 Iowa (23-3)
How is this one not in the top five also? We dominated our rival who was ranked in the top ten at the time on a beautiful day in Ames. It doesn't get much better than that! I think both of these Iowa games belong in the top five ahead of the 2000 Iowa game. It's tough to place it ahead of either Nebraska game or the Insight.com Bowl, so I can live with it ranked 6th but not behind 2000 Iowa.

17. 2002 vs. Texas Tech (31-17)
This game belongs in the top ten. ISU football has never been higher than it was after this win. We were ranked #9 in the nation the week following. Seneca's run was amazing, but Lane Danielsen also had an amazing reverse in the game. Primetime on TBS ... 17th is way too low.

11. 2004 at Kansas State (37-23)
Amazing finish to a football game. Incredible turnaround at a place and against a team that owned us on that field. I still can't help but smile when I think about this one. It's gotta be in the top ten in my opinion.

21. 2000 at Colorado (35-27)
I already commented on this game in this thread, but it deserves mention again. We had lost 16 straight games to the Buffs. It allowed us to elevate our bowl status considerably. I will never forget my experience in Phoenix that year and this game was huge in getting us there. We could have easily ended up in Houston at the Galleryfurniture.com Bowl or in the snow in Shreveport. It is in my top 15.

Games I think are ranked too high ...

7. 2000 vs. Missouri (39-20)
I was soooooo glad this game was on your list. It was huge to get our 6th win in 2000 and guarantee that we were going to a bowl game for the first time in 22 years. However, looking back now I don't think you can put it quite this high. Not in the top ten for me. Mizzou was really bad that year.

10. 2004 vs. Nebraska (34-27)
A win over Nebraska (just like a win over Iowa) is always sweet, but I also don't have this one in my top ten. I actually barely have it in my top twenty and expect criticism on that from many of you.

Games I think should have been on the list ...

2006 vs. Missouri (21-16)
Coach Mac's last dance deserves a place just out of respect for the man.

2007 vs. Colorado (31-28)
I noted that Chiz games were avoided as much as possible but this was pretty sweet.

Ok, I've done enough nitpicking. I'll just post my list now and let people take shots at me too ...

1. 2000 Insight.com Bowl vs. Pittsburgh (37 - 29)
2. 2009 at Nebraska (9-7)
3. 2002 vs. #20 Nebraska (36-14)
4. 2002 at Iowa (36-31)
5. 2005 vs. #8 Iowa (23-3)

6. 2005 vs. #22 Colorado (30-16)
7. 2004 at Kansas State (37-23)
8. 2002 vs. Texas Tech (31-17)
9. 2009 Insight Bowl vs. Minnesota (14-13)
10. 2004 Independence Bowl vs. Miami University (17-13)

11. 2000 at Iowa (24-14)
12. 2001 vs. Iowa (17-14)
13. 2000 at Oklahoma State (33-26)
14. 2000 at Colorado (35-27)
15. 2007 vs. Iowa (15-13)

16. 2005 at Texas A&M (42-14)
17. 2000 vs. Missouri (39-20)
18. 2004 at Baylor (26-25)
19. 2004 vs. Nebraska (34-27)
20. 2009 vs. Colorado (17-7)

21. 2002 vs. Missouri (42-35)
22. 2006 vs. Missouri (21-16)
23. 2001 at Kansas (49-7)
24. 2007 vs. Colorado (31-28)
25. 2005 vs. Kansas State (45-17)

Thank you to the writers at WRNL for both lists and all other content! I'm a big fan. :notworthy:

I don't know if this is quite worthy of that. Maybe forced to become a UNI fan or just give up college football altogether? Anything besides that.
