I am reaching out to you from StubHub Executive Customer Care. We have read your question and I would like to explain our service fees and why they are assessed.

They're watching us! :wideeyed:

When a customer calls our Customer Service Department, they are talking to a live Customer Service Representative. The representatives then assess the situations by answering all questions and take any necessary steps needed to resolve the situation. However, all this work requires man power and has costs incurred to provide. As such StubHub charges a 10% buy fee (a minimum buy fee of $5.00 on orders less than $50.00) and a 15% sell fee to sellers. StubHub is then able to provide the exceptional customer service to our customers when there is an issue that requires our special attention.

Didn't sound like a phone call was needed to complete this transaction - so why such a high fee for a hands-off transaction?

Iron Maiden got sick of scalpers so they implement the paperless ticket at many of their shows now. It's kind of a pain to bring your credit card to the concert to get in but it does keep the ticket prices down. Maidens philosophy is to have their hardcore fans in the best seats and not just the ones who can afford to pay 3 x face value. I was only allowed to buy four tickets for the last show but we knew it ahead of time and had enough buyers for the group. Some of the arenas(and I believe Wells is one of them) presell the good seats to the scalpers(ticket brokers) as a way of guaranteeing sales. It's a bunch of crap.

StubHub is a rip off. Anyone trying to get tickets off of StubHub is either a) desperate or b) ********.

I bought a $5 ticket ($40 if I went straight to the ticket office) for the Twins-Royals game this week. Add in the service fee I paid a total of $10.

So I'm which one, 'a' or 'b', am I?

I am reaching out to you from StubHub Executive Customer Care. We have read your question and I would like to explain our service fees and why they are assessed.

At StubHub, we are fans like you and we have created our marketplace to bring fans together to buy and sell tickets. We strive to be the best secondary marketplace for event tickets. We are also an open marketplace, meaning that anyone can list tickets on our site for sale and the listing process itself is free.

When a customer calls our Customer Service Department, they are talking to a live Customer Service Representative. The representatives then assess the situations by answering all questions and take any necessary steps needed to resolve the situation. I hope this answers any questions regarding the service fees on our site. If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to email me at [email protected] Attn: Sue along with contact information and I will be happy to follow up with you directly.
You think 25% is a good margin? Really?:skeptical:

That's nice, but it ignores the original point of the OP - charging what amounts to a 25% premium on a transaction for which you don't carry inventory is extremely high. (I won't go so far as to say 'excessive' because the market ultimately determines that). I would also like to see the breakout of phone transactions vs. those that are completely handled over the web through their site. I'm guessing significantly more than 50% of their business is done without involving a live body to process the transaction.

The problem, of course, has been stated by others already: There are not many viable alternatives. My hope is that some will spring up because this is a little bit like realtors getting a 25% cut of a housing sale as opposed to the market rate of 6-8%.

KC. I get your sarcasm but the poster I responded to is out of line for his comments. Don't like the site, don't use it. It's a business and many people use it for all sorts of reasons.

I wouldn't worry about it. That poster is often arrogant.

I just bought some Cubs tickets on Stubhub last week and didn't find the fees out of line at all. I just checked my receipt and for $175 in tickets I paid $21 in fees. I felt it was well worth it for a reputable intermediary. As others have said, if the fees are too high just go elsewhere.

Compared to Ticketmaster, I don't think Stubhub is out of line. I think that many scalpers use the site for their own gain, though.

Between the fees to both parties, I have to say that StubHub comes out pretty good.

I sold some tickets last year on StubHub - didn't try to profit, just make my money back - so I had to inflate the price to pay for the fee. They got sold pretty fast and without hassle.

The one thing I give them is that they guarantee some tickets, and they also give you the ability to instantly print them - which is nice and allows you to sell right up til the last possible second.

I didn't. Mostly out of principle. They obviously make money (and probably a ton of it) but I just thought charging 25% of the transaction price for basically being the meeting place for 2 parties was outrageous. I would guess that 95%+ people using Stubhub never need any customer service.

They do guarantee the tickets but that doesn't help you at the game. If I buy them off ebay and use paypal, they will guarantee the tickets too.

Sounds like a good deal, but I would calculate the price differently. I would think of it as paying $40 to watch the Twins and getting $30 in return for watching the Royals.

Not even close to true. I can get tickets to Giants games here for $10-15 on stubhub. I bought three tickets for the game Tuesday night for $50 and change. If I would have gone through the ticket office, it would've been at least twice that. Stubhub is far and away the best spot to get good seats at reasonable prices. I implore you to tell me a better place...

This. I bought some tickets to a concert here in August. I was thinking I'd have more people going, but they backed out. I paid $75 (+ astronomical Ticketmaster fees). I sold them for $125 through stubhub (minus big fees). I ended up basically getting my two tickets for around $60. Not bad overall for me...

This may be true to venues that aren't sold out but try searching for a few events where you can't buy tickets from the box office.
