And you're also aware that Iowa's safeties were basically punt returners last year, right? They stood 25 yards downfield and Arnaud threw them the ball without an ISU receiver anywhere in sight. One of the interceptions came on a long deflection deep down field that fell right into a safety's hands. Did you see the pass that Arnaud bounced off of the Iowa linebacker's back? It was probably the worst played game by an ISU quarterback in the last 15 years. I don't recall Iowa getting significant pressure on Arnaud either, because they were playing the pass so heavily and we just didn't run the ball enough. We've discussed this game at length. Maybe if you and your Hawkeye brethren spent more time on the Cyclone boards you'd have seen it.
I love the people who will only expect 4-6 wins. "This is ISU, how dare you think you can have more!" Seriously, how stupid is that? I would rather expect and be disappointed than be satisfied with mediocrity, or actually not even mediocrity. As long as everyone has the attitude that 5-6 wins is fine, that is all we will have on a consistent basis because that attitude trickles down to other things.
It's called being realistic. You can expect all you want but that's not going to change the outcome.
I don't think that because I'm satisfied with mediocrity or because I don't think we're capable of more. I think that because of the schedule, talent level as compared to the teams we are playing, and the holes we have on offense and defense.
I'd love to think we are going to win the National Championship, but it's not realistic and thinking it will not make it come true.
So where do you draw that line? Every year I will be able to point to more holes and parts of the schedule that are tough.
You'd think that after Austen's first pick, somebody would have pointed that out to him, or that Herman would have made an adjustment.

Sensing a theme? Getting a couple picks off of tips could be considered luck. Four? From the same guy? Not so much.
Really? You don't think that this year's schedule is more difficult than the past few years'? That doesn't make a difference in projected wins/losses to you?
Ahh - the annual Hawkeye National Championship Run. I love that run. I really love it when we stop that run by game 3 typically. Although, I also take great joy when Northwestern stops that run late in the season.
This will be one tough year for ISU, but fortunately we have some momentum from CPR and some bent feelings about our place in the world.
We shall see - that's why they play the games, because if it was all a done deal, we'd just play the bowls.
Exactly my point - they weren't turnovers that were "earned" through vicious hits, ball hawking, gang tackling and pawing at the ball... Arnaud and Herman played like Timmy and Jimmy that day. I won't say they were "gifts" because Sash and Co still had to physically catch the ball, but our boys sure didn't make it hard for them.
ISU had a horrendous offensive performance against Iowa and was -4 in TO margin. Nebraska had a horrendous offensive performance against ISU and got 8 turnovers. It happens.

I would say that Iowa's O was putting pressure on Arnaud to press. Had Iowa not had such ease moving the ball, ISU probably would have been more patient.
you guys who are chalking up a win against neb do realize they are preseason top 10 in just about every poll..sometimes ahead of the iowa..just sayin..
Did NU get an offense in the offseason? They were horrible.
And I know that some think Crick (sp?) will be the next Suh, but I don't see it. He will be double teamed, and they will have to have someone else step up. Without the pressure from the DL, their secondary is suspect.

Between Nebraska's offensive problems and question marks in replacing Suh, and Iowa's OL question marks and spotty QB play, those are two highly-ranked teams that I don't find that frightening.
