Usually, I would not waste time arguing with somebody as inept as you. However, you are likely a drop-out from Iowa and are in need of education.
First, the reality is that Iowa offers very little to the Big Ten. Read the news articles. Realignment is all about garnering more cable television contracts. U of I does not bring much to the table. It is a miniscule member of the Big Ten. And the Big Ten is not done adding members. Soon, you will have members that make Iowa totally irrelevent in terms of TV sets.
As a conference, it may be doing just fine. But, do you really think that other conferences are not going to respond? The Pac 10 is already moving. The Big East will defend itself and expand. The ACC and SEC will move. This isn't over by any stretch.
You want reality? You, like most Iowa fans, cannot handle it. The reality is that the State of Iowa does not have enough people to make cable television contracts worth much to a conference. You want to think that Iowa can form its own destiny because you think it is special. Its not. Its just a good school from a low-population state.
This is so factually inaccurate I don't even know where to begin. Just because you want something to be true, doesn't mean it is in any way actually true. Calling Iowa a "miniscule member of the Big 10" actually made me laugh out loud. In terms of student population, yes. With Nebraska now in the Big 10 Iowa is the 3rd smallest member in terms of student population. That is where your comment stops being in any way truthful or sensible.
Iowa consistently had an NCAA tourney caliber program until the Alford hire. This was karma for getting rid of Davis, which they never should have. The Hawks were consistently an upper tier Big 10 football program throughout the Fry days until the last few seasons. Ferentz has put Iowa back on the map, and they are a recognizable name nationally. Combine that with the dominant wrestling program, and an excellent academic reputation and it just makes your claim that much more ridiculous.
The reality of the television issue is that the Hawkeyes draw a large majority of Iowa's television sets. Fact. The Hawkeyes also have no competition from professional teams unlike every other team in the Big 10 (with the exception of Nebraska now). As they continue to cement their place among the upper tier football programs it will make them more and more of a national draw.
At the end of the day I want what is best for all of the schools in my state. I do not want to see any school suffer as it hurts us as Iowans. It is frustrating coming on these boards (CF, ESPN, CBS, etc.) and seeing fans such as yourself (and oh boy are they on both sides, don't think I'm saying this is strictly a Cyclone thing) who have such an absolute hate of the other school that it blinds them to any sense of actual reality.
I for one don't understand the hate. How is it good for either side to have the other side fail?? It is mind boggling to me that any Cyclone or Hawkeye fans would want the other school to suffer. I just can't grasp that. Sure you have your team and you root for them, but why would I ever want to root for Texas or Missouri or Kansas over Iowa State when I live in Iowa even if I lean Hawkeye?? I don't see how that possibly helps anything. All it does is stir up emotions and pour gas on the fire.
At the end of the day fans of each school should want the absolute best for the other as it very negatively effects the other if one is suffering. I am an adult and I'm not going to come on here and put down a school simply because my first allegiance lies elsewhere. I don't understand why Cyclone fans on here are lashing out at Hawkeye fans before they've even done anything. It is simply going to turn them against you. And for the few Hawkeye fans who actually are genuinely happy to see the state that ISU is currently in perhaps you should think about the whole picture, instead of just what feeds your cruel nature.
I hope that ISU finds itself in the best possible position when this is all said and done, whatever that might be. The majority of Hawkeye fans don't hate Cyclone fans or the school, and they don't enjoy seeing what is currently happening with ISU. ISU has done absolutely nothing to deserve this, and it's the greed of a few (Texas, Nebraska) that is driving this. I wish Cyclone fans would reach out to Hawkeye fans, instead of turning them away with venom before they have a chance to show support. And I wish Hawkeye fans would offer whatever support they can in this to our Cyclone neighbors. We all have friends and family who support the other side so it's not like any of us can't imagine what it would be like to be on the other side of the fence.
Ugh, the whole damn thing just disgusts me. This situation is stupid and shouldn't have happened in the first place. And the genuine hate that some people seem to have for each other on here disgusts me even more. I don't understand why we can't be adults and work together for the best outcome. I'm going to go take a bath.
