Little Italy was great back in the day.I'm glad someone mentioned it.
Most of you probaly never heard of it.

So DaVinci's is gone? wow...I had no idea.

Tony's Little Italy was approx where Aunt Maudes is today first, then moved to spot of south entrance to Hickory Park off of S 16th.

I miss the Spudnut shop

The Gyro Stand! And its not even close.

If there is a heaven, there is a gyro stand directly outside every bar in heaven.

Edit: Yeah I now see the thread is on closed restaurants. Thought it was the one you missed the most from college!

I believe the restaurant you are thinking of was Cafe Northwest. They had fantastic Steak Debergo and Greek Spaghetti. Loved that place and it beat the pants off of Palmas!!!

Palmas was where Le Fuentes is now

Cafe northwest was where Okiboji Grill is now, before Cafe Northwest, it was a Golden Corral

Flame and Skewer, I bet? On the west side of the main entrance? They are still there, if you ever want to make a trip to NG - we'll occasionally make a trip there just for the gyros.

DiSalvo's Deli, if you're talking about the place in the strip mall.

Our daughter has dress rehearsal for her dance recital (at CY Stephens on Tuesday) and her recital on Saturday. We may have to stop in. We went there all the time when we lived in North Grand apts and didn't have any money. Used to walk around Wal-Mart looking at stuff we wished we could buy...like plates.

Home Team for me. There are some other great choices on here (DaVinci's, Garden Cafe), but you couldn't beat Home Team for the price (and the memories).

I know the proper thing to say is, "I hope she breaks a leg!" - but that just sounds awful, so I'm going to say good luck to her.

I know you mentioned it earlier, but Wallaby's is also still open! Might be a little harder to get into than Flame & Skewer, but their fries may be the best in town. And the fried dills at Cafe Northwest are still top-notch - although they've accidentally given me fried sweet pickles twice, which is not the same thing. It's amazing how much time you can waste wandering around Wal-Mart when you're young and poor! Especially since they were open all night - we used to do the same thing!

I like the Cajun Mayo at Wallaby's...Mrs liked their homemade wine coolers. They used to have one waiting for her when we got there.

One of my favorite places in Ames solely because we walked in for an interview and Rick offered us Irish Car Bombs. :biglaugh:

Cardboard with cheese, sauce and ranch. Oh Home Team Pizza. A friend and I once got a ride home with the HT pizza guy (it was winter and we were too cold/drunk/lazy to walk the 5 blocks back to the house). My friend sat in back and started eating the pizza the guy was supposed to deliver next. He was completely flabbergasted when he came back to the car and saw that. I think she offered him like $40 as compensation.

That was a fun night. The driver was negotiating getting a giant pumpkin from the house party we were at.

What was the 'fancy' San Francisco place up on the west end of downtown? Was across the street from the train station and the Garden thingy that went in later.

I didn't even know they made those! They do have the best dipping sauces - I believe they still have the Cajun Mayo, or else it may be a Chipotle Mayo now. They have great ranch, and I think that they still serve ranchup (ranch and ketchup mixed together).

That is the sign that you want to work for a place. I bet it definitely made the interview a lot more entertaining - and probably more honest!
