Boy, NASCAR fans sure are a rowdy bunch. Nothing like 3 hours of driving in circles or- gasp!- a number scandal to get the party started!

:wink0st:

I'll be honest - I don't give a rip about NASCAR. So I don't really get the ins-and-outs of these deals.

But - you have to wonder about the motivation here. What is the end result? You have to think that it would be in NASCAR's, the team's and JRs best interest to NOT allow the number 8 to be moved with him.

Being one of the more popular and recognizable drivers, re-numbering JR opens up a cash-cow of merchandising.

I however am a Jr. fan and knew that long before you looked it up a few weeks ago.

ESPN is as bad as you with this "breaking news." Funny thing is that ESPN just learned it so it really is breaking news up in Bristol.:laugh8kb:

IF they let Jr keep the number they wouldnt get to sell as much new gear with his new number/sponsor... Nascar fans may be rednecks, but the people in charge know what they are doing...

I think they should have one race per season where they drive clockwise rather than counterclockwise. I think that would be interesting.

Plus the old #8 stuff will show up at Thrift Stores (Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.) for the rest of NASCAR fans to purchase at a discount!!

I think it would be even better if half of the drivers went one way, half the other.

Have you ever seen a figure 8 race on a small track??

Luckily we have it just a few miles away in Adel. I actually first saw it in Rockford, Ill. when I was visiting my cousin.

What is a Figure 8 race?

The cars are similar to what you might see at a demo derby.
The track is in the shape of an 8.
The cars race each other around the track, and sometimes (oftentimes) "meet" each other in the middle.
Ever heard of "chicken"? This is "extreme" chicken!
You gotta see it!
Try to imagine a demo derby at 60 MPH!!!

Cool...add oil slicks, smoke screens, guns, and anything else from the 80's video game Spy Hunter, and I'm there!

How about a Figure 8 track. Let's see how safe these new COTs are! :biggrin9gp:

As one of the few NASCAR fans on this board, jparker is right...this has been known for a few weeks now.

I realize this was supposed to be some sort of insult to NASCAR and its fans, but name a sport where this isn't the case. Where did the Kobe #8 jerseys end up? Or the Jordan #45 jerseys? Or the Randy Moss Vikings and Raiders jerseys? Shall I keep going?

Lighten up...it was just a joke.

But as long as you are naming jerseys/teams, How about the Iowa #5 or Drew Tate for Heisman t-shirts??

I remember seeing the PP #3 basketball jersey for $3 at regular sporting goods store after he was kicked from the team.

You may have known, but many others (including myself) did not know this before I looked it up a few weeks ago.
