I'd just be happy with some new speakers at this point. Nothing says K-Mart more than our 40 year old Jensen 6x9 speakers.

my guess is you give less than $250 a year...possibly a lot less (not counting tickets).

Who cares what this guy gives, that is none of your business. He posed a question about bowl revenue going towards stadium renovation. Do you give a million dollars or something?

One of the most ridiculous posts I have seen on this site.

I know this wasn't the OP's point, but should we really care if our stadium is upgraded immediately? The capacity might go up to around 60k, and make the venue cooler, but Im just really excited for this team, this year and the future.

I'm much more concerned about paying Herman and Burnham enough $$ so they stay around for 4-5 years +

Everything I ever heard out of JP stated that "seats" increase, but not actual capacity. So we move seating into the lower 50's. Basically a tradeoff of hillsides/SRO seating to actual seats. I don't believe 60 was EVER in reach. Most of the time I've heard 54 to as high as 56.

And is the upper deck some sort of new development? I thought it was just lower from the original master plans? Or simply pie in the sky?

Guess what, recruits like to play for school with bigger and better stadiums at times. I am sure our Hilton attracts a tremendous amount of kids just because its such an elite facility.

This really just comes down to the Benjamins. If Texas sells 100,000 seats at $55 each for 6 home games, that's $33 million. If we sell 55,000 seats at $55 each for 6 home games, that's $18.15 million. So in order to move out of the "have-not" category, you have to put butts in the seats now AND add seats soon.

That underscores to me that we need a lot more than just 11,000 fans paying full price for season tix before we think about adding seats...

I thought that the Big12 bowl money is split after expenses. So the team that goes is allotted a certain amount of money for airfare, hotels, and such. The better the bowl you go to the more you can spend on travel (send the band, ect.) The money that is left is then split amongst the 12 teams. I don't think that schools really get more profit from the games, but rather it would revitalize our fanbase to bring more money in that way. In past years I think that ISU has actually lost money on bowls because they do more than what they are allotted.

Agreed--the money simply has to come, some how some way. I didn't even mention that at Texas you have to make a sizeable annual donation (more than $250) to even have a chance to buy season tickets. Obviously this can't happen until a more consistent winning product is put on the field--but that will happen with CPR. Which is good, because the window of opportunity to try to keep up in the Big XII is closing fast.

All Athletic Capital Projects are funded privately or by private Revenue, such as ticket sales, and not from funds affected by the cuts.

There may be a internal University political restraint on spending with such cuts around, but the funding stream is not impacted by the cuts. It still will take a well-healed donor to step up to happen.

Yeah, lower level bowl would actually lower the seating slightly. Add the upper level and it would be up over 60k.

When I say Kansas will be a cupcake I mean they will go back to being a cupcake team. Their defense is horrible to say the least.

Don't count your chickens...Kansas doesn't really lose too much on D and maybe have people ready to step in for the skill positions. Obviously there will be a fall off with what they lose on offense but don't expect them to return to the cellar. While KU still lost both of their last two games the D looked good in both the OU and CU game. They have valid replacements for WR and HB who are playing well this year. The only big question mark is QB. Pick is the leading candidate and can run like crazy, however he is yet to prove he is a gifted thrower in a game but good things have been said from practice. They will be worse next year, yes, but they get the cupcake schedule from the south (BU, A&M, OSU) and will still be decent.

Case in point: Oklahoma State. They were NOT consistently sellling out before the expansion. They weren't even elite. Their stadium was sad and high-schoolish like ours. Now they're recruiting better and in the top ten. Yes- I realize they have an oil tycoon in their corner. But it goes to show that yes; if you build it they will come.

Unless we are adding a MASSIVE upper deck, I don't think we'd hit 60,000.

I'm not sure even the Sherpas could handle it.

I'm envisioning moving sidewalks and escalators.

I always thought those would be awesome to have on the hillsides instead of having to walk up. Then remembered those stupid students who sprint up the hill. Idiots. Wait a minute....
