Real curious as to how you know that? Are you Mr. Feldman? Or that goofy guy in the picture?

Dude, I'm a girl.

My husband grew up in that area. We still keep in touch with some people back there, and of course, *still* laugh our aces off about the whole thing.

(I lived there for a few years, so I can say this) Carroll is the most most self-center loathsome place I've ever experienced. They really do believe their poop doesn't stink and that the rest of the world revolves around them. Because of her last name, many people are letting the whole thing slide. They judge everyone else with a pretty harsh light, but when it comes to their own faults, it's all rosy. You are a nothing if your family is not an 'old family' and 'pillars' of the community (well, 'pillars' except for what happens behind closed doors...)

Actually a lot of small towns are like that in Iowa. I grew up in one.

Carroll has a right to be proud about some things.

True. It wasn't all bad. But I experienced more than one What-The-Heck?! moments while there.

The Catholic-ness of the whole place was a little much. I'm Lutheran - and yet I was asked if Lutherans recognize Easter in our religion - and once, was asked before a potluck meal if I was okay with saying a prayer before we ate. ?!? If I had really been on my toes I should have requested that we perform a quick goat sacrifice instead of a before-meal prayer...

My problem with places like that is that most of the population has rarely traveled more than 20 miles from home, yet they think the world rotates around them!

Oh, think about that a little bit....Big time Iowa sterotype which is not very true. Sure there are Hill billy's everywhere, but in my opinion Iowa's population is fairly well traveled and educated. Just because we chose to stay here doesn't make us quaint.

I agree with you about people staying in Iowa/in smaller communities. We're now living in a very small town (and we both grew up on farms near small towns). But - from the start, here I've felt welcomed and accepted. In Carroll there was nothing I could do to not been seen as an outsider that does not belong.

It's sad really, because we have so many ties in western Iowa, but the place never felt welcoming - never felt like a home.

I love Carroll, its a great town.

Having a real-life "Cougar" just makes it that much more exciting to be from there.

I think Lois needs to capitalize off her new "Popularity". She could really make some cash, she's not a bad looking girl.

You must have had some awful experience in Carroll. I grew up just outside of Carroll and went to High School there. I would say that your comments are totaly inaccurate.

We now live in a small town near Carroll and when we moved here we maybe knew 1 or 2 families. We have been here two years and it still surprises me when we are out and someone will come up to us and introduce themselves and their family. We will also get the Welcome to town or glad to have you here.

The only thing I don't like about Carroll is all the Stop lights on Hwy 30. I used to love them in High School when we would "Cruise the Drag" but know they just drive me crazy!
