Iowa State Daily media day article

There is some additional information that was not in Dresser's interview.

A recurring irritation:
There is nothing on cyclones.com yet. Do they wait to put out material so that they do not step on the Daily's toes? Do they post it on Twitter? It seems that was the only place that the wrestle-offs were promoted. It would be nice if it was at least one of the "go to" sites for Cyclone wrestling information. The site seems to be very timely and reliable for football, men's and women's basketball, and other sports.

Insider Information Weekly Mailbag 10-30-2019
Halloween Edition
Sponsored by Pepto Bismol, for when the big runs are keeping you down.

@Sigmapolis starts the week with the easy question: FMK the three Emmas: Stone, Roberts, and Watson.
GTO:
This one is pretty easy and @cmjh10 got it right. M - Watson is the easy choice. For the other two, neither is much my type, but I guess I find Stone less annoying so F - Stone and K - Roberts.
Pants: F-Stone (she proved in Zombieland 2 that she’s still a hottie), M-Watson (Watson is on my top 5 list), K-Roberts. I know who Roberts is, but she’s kind of just a passing person for me. This was too easy.

@jcyclonee just coming back from his hangover asks: What happened to this last weekend? It went by too fast.
Pants:
I know people love 2:30 games, but I kind of hate them. I can’t tailgate. So I sit around all day waiting for the game to start at 3:30, then when it’s over the day is kind of over. Really ***** with my Saturdays. Then Sunday, I got lost in some not very good horror movies.
GTO: Yes, this weekend was the equivalent of that Chuba Hubbard TD run. Gone in a blur. I was sick, but still had to attend a church Trunk or Treat (during the game, so I just watched on my phone in bits and pieces). I also recorded the game on my DVR and then decided to delete it as soon as I got home. On Sunday I skipped church and just stayed at home resting all day.

@ImJustKCClone asks: Will we win our bye game this week?
GTO:
Bye team has some athletes, but they’re also coached by CPR, Mangino, and Burnham so they’ll find a way to suck on offense and give 15 yard cushions on defense. As long as we don’t beat ourselves… Well, then again. Could go either way.
Pants: Probably a tie. Just hoping for no injuries.

@CloneLawman trying to gather information for his case: Who burgled KC's little car this weekend? (unauthorized entry with criminal mischief...no theft reported). Why?

[Additional detail provided by KC: Screwed up and left a window partway down. Nothing stolen but our parking pass. Basically they emptied a full box of kleenex across the floorboards, seats, & dash, took folded plastic ponchos out of their net bags and spread them across the seats...juvenile crap. After a win, I probably would have laughed. After a loss (that should NOT have been a loss), it wasn't as funny.
I'm over it now...but still disappointed in adults that don't understand "if it's not yours, LEAVE IT ALONE".]
Pants
: Is KC aware that technology now exists to prevent this sort of thing from happening? Like car alarms? Or door locks? Or car doors and windows?
GTO: The modus operandi would point to BDK and his fast food establishment trashing friend. His motive could be related to revenge on KC for constantly calling him out on his stupidity. A second potential suspect could be a disgruntled former Taco Time employee. The motive on that one could be related to either firing, unpaid wages, or just triggered from seeing the vehicle again.

On That Note: Word

Welcome back to “On That Note,” a weekly music exploration hosted by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and me, cyclones500.

This week, the focus is: Songs with one-word titles.

We’re extremely strict with this one.
1. Songs titles than involve ANY additional word (even a/an/the adjective) are not allowed. (“The End” or “The Reflex,” as random examples, are not allowed).
2. Titles with (parentheses) do not count, even if the main title is one word (in cases when that applies).
3. This is for song titles only. Multi-word songs by one-word band names are off-limits.

Allowed within the framework: A person’s name; numbers (spelled out or in numeric form) and abbreviations.
Let's go!

PS Vue Going Away

I just got an email that PS Vue is no longer going to be available at the end of January. I am bummed because I really liked it. What is everyone's favorite streaming thing out there. I had some issues with Hulu Live due to my IP address showing in a town I wasn't in for some reason and this would not allow me to get the ESPN channels. Sling didn't offer me enough of the channels I like. I am thinking Youtube TV would be the best but wanted to get everyone else's opinion.

CF posts of the month: October 2019

A few of my favorite CF comments from October 2019. Some are edited for clarity or brevity.

From the thread “California legalizes college athlete endorsements”
@CapnCy: No one likes their sink or toilets backing up. Take if from me, your favorite backup, Jerome Tiller: No one knows back-ups like RotoRooter.

From “Confiscated by security”
(Full thread link here — chock-full of nuggets)

@Sparkplug: I had a clear plastic bag with rain ponchos, two bottles of water and a roll of paper towels to dry off seats. After the ticket scan, I was told I couldn’t keep the paper towels. Did they think this old lady was going to throw the paper towels? I could do more harm with a corn dog.
@Cyforce: Next time, hide the paper towels in a sousaphone.

@Remo Gaggi: They got my brass knuckles and the spare .45 I usually carry. They didn't get the Rambo knife I had hidden in my boot, however.

@BoxsterCy: If I come to a colder game later this year, I am bringing some Scotch capsules, aka “pods.”

@CyArob: I've tried the multicolored ones. They taste like soap.

@JM4CY: So you just suck on them until a little hole opens up and fills your mouth with a potent and powerful liquid?
@SpokaneCY: That’s ONE way to phrase it …

From “Friday OT: The Nines”
@isukendall: I hear the word “Vegas” and I think of a drunk bridesmaid at a bachelorette party, awkwardly walking in heels, with a fruity drink in hand, drinking from a penis straw, talking really loud and crying, with mascara running down her face. Probably saying she hates drama.

From “Friday OT: You’re My Boy, Blue”
@Farnsworth: Another data-mining thread by @Angie. She's after all of us!
@CloneFan65: Next week, the two questions will be: What is your mother's maiden name? and, What was your first pet's name?

From “Dudley Blackwell commits”
@usedcarguy: I can't imagine what our team would look like with (Blackwell) and Conditt on the floor at the same time. Oh boy. I need a minute alone.
@CycloneVet: Minute? It will take only 8.25 seconds.
@cymac2408: Why, is he going to have foreplay for 7.25 seconds?

(RoadRunnerDud @1kdudd): 1000000% committed
@ca4cy: That's a lot of percent.

From “Sports Bets”
@Lineup: How do you get money to bet?
@Rabbuk: A job?

From “Could Someone Update the Uninitiated on Injuries?
@dosry5: I have a toe injury. Not sure if it’s an ingrown nail, but it’s the upper left corner of my right big toe, just really sore. If the blankets get too heavy on it the pain is terrible. I’d google it, but WebMD would just tell me I have cancer....

From “Minnesota to host College GameDay?”
@harimed: Color me skeptical. #1 Alabama plays #2 LSU that day.
@coolerifyoudid: Yeah, but would you rather be in Minnesota in November or .... ya know, never mind the rest of what I was gonna say.

From “Weekly Mailbag question submissions”
@Cyched: Why is a building called a building even after it's finished? Shouldn't it be called a “built”?

From “How Long Will We Keep Mitchell, Brock?”
@CYCLNST8: Thread title is confusing. I read it as someone asking Brock Purdy how long we will keep Re-al Mitchell.

@cyclone4L: Worrying about whether the 2nd string QB and the 5th string running back transferring in the offseason is like marrying the prom queen who became a doctor and lying awake at night wondering what that chubby choir girl is up to.

From “Friday OT: Head of the Class, I’m Popular”
@Trice: If I'd put as much effort into acquiring a taste for vegetables as I did for beer, I'd be the healthiest SOB on the planet.

From “Where is Brocktember?”
(Suggested posts from by @MeanDean)
@JM4CY gif in response to @SpokaneCY “What’s the deal with airline food?”
@SpokaneCY: That is the hottest choking video I’ve ever seen.
@2020cy: Evidently, you don’t watch much porn.

From “ISU-Tech Gameday Thread”
(in reference to Illinois upset of Wisconsin)
@SpokaneCY: Illini fans stormed the field. Including the team, there were, like, 157 people on that field!
@CYEATHAWK: Only if you include the remaining Wisconsin players.

From “New Overtime Rule”
@Cyclones_R_GR8: My sister was at the Virginia Tech game.
**Later in the thread**
@Cyclones_R_GR8: How the heck do I get 2 “Disagrees” to my sister being at the Virginia Tech game?

From “Florida State eyeing Urban Meyer and Brian Kelly”
@clone52: They are eyeing them? 10 years ago when I was single, I was eyeing Megan Fox and Mila Kunis. Didn't work out.

From “Big 12 media day … rule changes”
@KCClone1: One rule change I want is the kicked ball rule. The offense throws a bad pass, defender stops the ball with his foot, and offense gets the ball back? Why stop the game? Are they afraid a soccer game is going to break out?

From “The ‘I’ve Heard This Before’ Rumor Mill”
(thread about Arizona and ASU joining Big 12)
@Sigmapolis: We should have added BYU and Houston last time around. Two cougars at the same time?

From “Insider weekly mail bag” (Oct. 25 version)
@GTO: This got me wondering how many dumb ratings I have. I guess I've only received two of them ever. (I have a feeling this post will be used as a signal for dumb ratings).
@jcyclonee: ‘Dumb’ rating

@BoxsterCy: I'm just here for the free pandering lessons.

From “Weekly Mailbag Question Submissions"
@jcyclonee: Question about the Greek system. Why do some of the houses pronounce the letter Phi as Fee and some pronounce it as Fie?
@ImJustKCClone: Because “fo” and “fum” were taken?

From “Are you drunk right now?” (after ISU-OSU loss)
@SplitIdentity: I am, but that's cuz my wife is out of town and I never get a chance to watch football in my underwear anymore. So I've got two different bourbons I'm alternating and am no longer in my underwear.

@atlantacyclone: I’m not a drinker, but now seems like as good a time as any to start ...

@cyrocksmypants: Nah, it’s just a sports game. Most of us will still wake up tomorrow.
@JM4CY: Most of us?

@Doc: I’m so high, I’m not convinced we lost.

WBB: Preview of Missouri Western State

What can we expect Wednesday?

They are coached by Candi Whitaker, Texas Tech coach from 2013-2018. It's possible that's the reason we are playing MWS, although she was hired in April 2019 so this game might have been scheduled before then.

The school is Div II. They are in the MIAA, which includes schools like Nebraska-Kearney, NW Mo State, and Emporia State. Out of 14 teams, they were picked 8th by the media and 11th by the coaches. They were 14-16 last season.

Their tallest players are 6'1". Not surprising for a lower-level school.

They appear to only return 6 players, but they have 8 newcomers, only one of whom is a freshman. The other 7 are all transfer juniors and seniors.

The obvious focus of the ISU defense will be on Katrina Roenfeldt. Of their six returners, she is the only one in their top 7 scoring last season, but she was easily #1 at 16.2 ppg. She was a 38% 3pt shooter making 2.9 of 7.6 attempts per game. She was also their leading rebounder (despite being 5'6"!) and #2 in assists. She was first-team all-conference last season and made the preseason team this year.

As a team, they got around 9 steals per game (Roenfeldt led the team with 2 per game). They seemed to force a lot of turnovers but also foul a fair amount.

With a new coach and a bunch of new players, there's not a lot more to say. I expect them to be pesky defensively (could be a good test for our point guards), but I don't expect them to be one of those low-level teams that is able to stick around against ISU due to cohesiveness, as can sometimes happen with an experienced, well-coached team. With all the newcomers, MWS just hasn't had enough time to get to that point.

ISU soccer coach resigns

Here's the release from ISU:

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head soccer coach Tony Minatta has announced that he is resigning from his position effective the end of the season.

Iowa State Senior Associate Athletics Director Dr. Calli Sanders accepted his resignation Monday afternoon.

The Cyclones are 3-14 overall and will host Kansas Thursday at 7 p.m. to end its regular season. Minatta will coach that game.

“We appreciate Tony’s committed service and dedication the past eight seasons, and we wish him well as he pursues other opportunities,” Sanders said. “We will begin a national search for a replacement immediately.”

Minatta was the Cyclones’ head coach the last six seasons, compiling a 33-71-6 (.327) overall record. His Big 12 mark was 7-40-4 (.176). He was an assistant at Iowa State for two years before taking the reins of the program in December, 2013.

Minatta’s best season on the sidelines was in 2016 when the Cyclones were 10-8-1, including a pair of Top-25 road wins. ISU was No. 48 in the final RPI rankings that year, the highest mark in school history.
