Zone

I have been impressed with the zone scheme Prohm has put in. Almost has a 1-3-1 matchup zone? Not something I have seen a ton of before (If anyone knows what this is please feel free to educate me). We have struggled to let up 3 pointers in man-man all year, might as well give them that shot in the zone too. Has vastly improved the defense that Lewis and Zion have played which helps a ton on the offensive side of the ball!

Boy I love the way Lewis cuts to the hoop on Haliburton drives.

Titans FTW?

Titans looked legit the last few weeks. Wouldn't be surprised to see them pull this out. Henry is a beast and some of those holes were Mack Truck sized last night. Defense was stingey too. Right now I still think the 9ers are the best team but the Titans look they have what they need.

Big 12 Volleyball Transfers

I don't know if anyone pays a lot of attention to the other teams in our conference, but there have been a lot of players from other Big 12 teams transferring the last month or so. Although, we want to be a top contender in the conference year after year, we also need to have a strong conference. The last couple of years we have had a lot of comments made about Texas and Baylor being in a "weak conference" which doesn't help us NCAA tournament time.
*Note: I have not done my research on who has been recruited for the 2020 season yet.

Here are the transfers so far:

Kansas:
OH - Junior, Camryn Ennis to Texas A&M
OH - Sophomore, Morgon Chriton to Texas A&M
OP - Sophomore, Rachel Hickman to Northern Colorado
*Ennis is a huge loss for them as she was the main setter her freshman year, then went to the outside her sophomore year. Very versatile player.

Kansas State:
OH - Sophomore, Anna Dixon to Missouri
OP - Junior, Gloriia Mutiri to Oregon
*Dixon was on the All-Big 12 Freshman Team, although she seemed to be a spark for them, you didn't really see her full potential being used IMO.

TCU:
OH - Senior, Ashley Waggle to George Washington
OH - Junior, eLan McCall to ?
**McCall is a tough player to lose, although she has been saddled with injuries and didn't see the front row again until the end of the season this year.

West Virginia:
OH - Junior, Kristina Jordan to ? OR (listed as No Longer on Roster)
OH - Junior, Macy McElhaney to Marshall
Libero - Junior, Abby Gibbons (listed as No Longer on Roster)
Libero - Senior, Ava Richards (listed as No Longer on Roster)
*Jordan is a dynamic player ~ I hope she continues to play somewhere.

Players TRANSFERRING into the Big 12:

To Baylor:
OH - Sophomore Lauren Harrison from UNC

To Texas:
OH - Capri Davis from Nebraska

To Texas Tech:
OH - Senior, Samantha Sanders from Texas A&M

To TCU:
MB - Sophomore, McKayla Myers from Washington State

Twister Sister Summary - Third quarter dooms sisters again

There were a few things that stuck out about this game. First of all, this one was there for the taking and unfortunately the sisters gave more than they took. Second, it takes more than three players scoring to be successful in any league. Especially the Big 12. Finally, and this is the strange one...statistically you'd look at the sisters' line and think..."they should win a game like this."

As I followed this game, the big knife in the back was apparent throughout. A lack of scoring from nearly anyone except Joens and Scott. Camber stepped up today, but the scoring threat from everyone else wasn't there and the help off the bench didn't do much either. Nez continues to get in foul trouble and in a very unlikely scenario, Joens fouled out. It was very unusual for this team to give up 19 fouls, but they did and as to be expected that was the difference in this game as OU hit 14 of 17 charity shots. OU is always like a mirror image of ISU and everything about this game showed that. The bad part was OU was just a little better at pulling it off today. One thing that really hurts this team is the inconsistent scoring from Maggie and Rae. They are either off or on and you never know which combination you will get. Today, Maggie only took five shots and Rae was zero for the day until late. We need more consistency out of those two. Yes, Maggie is a freshman enrolled in a grad course and I can accept that. Rae is the one that needs to show up day after day.

The ladies started out a bit rough and were down slightly after one before a big second quarter shot them ahead by the half. I felt really good at this point, but I shouldn't have. I don't want to bring this up, but I will. For two straight games the third quarter has doomed the sisters. For whatever reason the ladies came out like someone had hit them with a fire extinguisher. OU literally dominated the third outscoring the sisters 29-17. It was catchup after that and the ladies just couldn't stop OU's offense the rest of the way. This is one of several times this year where that third quarter has bitten the ladies and its starting to remind me of the team we had a few years back that had this same problem. There is no margin for error in our league and a quarter like that will cost you against anyone. Even a barely 50-50 team like OU.

The team needs to get this bug figured out in a hurry before they build a league hole they can't dig out of. More scoring from the rest of the team and consistent play throughout the game will go a long ways towards that.

What is this?

We have been renting our house for the last 18 months and just moved back. I found an Abbot MitraClip NT vascular clip device in my garage that one of our tenants had left behind. Anyone know anything about these?

Found an expired device for sale for $2500 so I am thinking about throwing it craigslist if it's not illegal.IMG_5221 (2).JPG

Big 12 Fantasy Pool

Myself and 6 friends have an annual Big 12 Fantasy Basketball League. This is our 4th year of running it. I think I have shared how the teams shook out in the past so I figured I would again. I attached our draft board for this year. In past years were drafted 4 guards and 4 forwards/centers (1 of each on the bench - play a 6 person lineup. This year we decided to make it position less - draft as many from any position and no requirement to have a particular position in your lineup. As far as the scoring it goes - PTS - 1, REB - 1.2, AST - 1.5, STL - 2, BLK - 2 and TO minus 1.

Just thought some of you might find this interesting. It is a fun time. We only do the 18 game league schedule, the SEC challenge game does not count.

A few things.... Will Pollard ever have 3 home games to start the season?? Why do we keep playing away games vs MAC teams??

Why do we keep playing the same teams... for example how many times have we lined up against UNI, UNLV and Ohio recently?

If you are going to play home/away at MWC teams... go for better ones such as Air Force, San Diego State, Colorado State, New Mexico or Wyoming.

Finally... will Iowa renew thier contract after 2025?

Zion Griffin

If there is one player that can change the trajectory of this season, I believe it's Zion Griffin. He's got good size and athleticism, the four-star credentials, and last game, he started to show his ability to knock down the three-point shot--something that is desperately needed on this team. I really hope this is one of the lineup changes Prohm makes against OU. Start giving him significant minutes, and start feeding him the ball and building his confidence. Somebody on this team has to start stepping up on the offensive end, and I believe he is our best candidate.
