The Real Reason why NCAA doesn't want to Pay College Athletes

I'll beg mercy from the beginning in case this post should be under another thread. MOD's please put in one if this doesn't deserve it's own thread.

Apparently it will just require all the Division 1 AD's to increase their budgets even further. Does this argument hold water?

Matt Campbell and depth

I am impressed by his ability to recruit depth. It seemed like previous coaches could sometimes get a pretty good 1st string out there but struggled to build depth. So when injuries invariably occurred we were screwed. I always attributed it is nobody wants to come and be a backup for a period of time at ISU because of poor tradition etc. it doesn’t seem to matter to this staff. Their ability to build a program appears to be extremely sustainable because every position has a pretty good 2 deep. This is something I have never seen in the last 20 years that has has some success. Now some very special players are starting to take notice(Brock and Hall) and committing. They don’t seem to care they are in the same class. It’s pretty cool.

Future Head Coach on Current Team?

ESPN published a fun article today where they named a current player from each ranked team that could go on to be a future head coach. Who would be your pick?

ESPN article: http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/26635686/the-future-head-coach-top-25-team

My pick would be Chase Allen.

First-Team Academic All-Big 12 in 2017 and 2018, major in mechanical engineering. Coaching is in his blood with his dad Terry and Terry's dad Robert.

From Cyclones.com: "father, Terry, was the head football coach at Northern Iowa (1989-96), Kansas (1997-2001) and Missouri State (2006-14) … Terry was an assistant coach at Iowa State from 2002-05 and the starting QB at Northern Iowa from 1976-78 … grandfather, Robert Allen, was the head men’s swimming and diving coach at Iowa from 1959-75"

#4 Iowa State Cyclones
If you asked people who had the best uniform in the Big 12 there probably wouldn’t be many people who would pick Iowa State. But it is quietly a really solid-looking uniform. Dark Red and Yellow are usually not the color combination you would throw out as a good look, but the Cyclones make it work.

The jersey looks great with the Cyclones above the number and the different color than the number. It makes both of them pop and looks good. The collar and sleeves being outlined is such a good look that I just don’t understand why every team doesn’t do it. It makes it look like a basketball jersey and should be required by every team.

Volleyball Questions

I just purchased VB season tickets for the 1st time. I've been to a few games over the last several years and always enjoyed it, so thought I's make a commitment to go to more games. Anyway, could someone answer some questions for me in simple terms (not rule book speech). What are the restrictions for back row players, and more specifically the restrictions for the Libero? Looking forward to my seat assignment and the games.

Post-Spring Top 25 - The Athletic

From Stewart Mandel of The Athletic

14. Iowa State
QB Brock Purdy was the nation’s sixth-rated passer as a true freshman. Early enrollee RB Breece Hall will help fill the void left by David Montgomery. Replacing star WR Hakeem Butler remains a concern. The Cyclones return eight starters from the Big 12’s No. 2 defense, led by DE JaQuan Bailey and S Greg Eisworth. Redshirt freshman LB Will McDonald, who played in four games last season, will play a major role.
Others of note:
4) Oklahoma
7) Texas
18) Iowa

Let's Hope That Madison Wise and Ashley Joens Learned from Bridget Carleton...

the importance of hard work.

I am excited about the future of WBB at ISU. Getting Ines back for another year is nice and the class of true and RS Freshman will inject some new talent. And I expect Adriana and Kristin Scott to have solid seasons next year.

But I think the critical element will be the ability of Madison Wise and Ashley Joens to improve and fill in the gap that will be left without Bridget.

Let's just hope that their numbers get better with age as they did for Bridget. Here are some of Bridget's Senior year statistics compared to her career averages as a Cyclone...

FG % - 47% vs. a career average of 41%
3-Pt % - 37% vs. 34%
Rebounds/Game - 8.6 vs. 7.0
Assists/Game - 4.0 vs. 2.8
Points/Game - 21.7 vs. 17.3
Blocks per year - 43 vs. 31
Steals per year - 79 vs. 53

Seniors are typically better players than they were as underclassmen, but it is not always as impressive as Bridget's progression was. Let's hope she rubbed off on her teammates.
