Recruiting Roundup: December 17, 2018

We are two days away from the early signing period.  This was a rough week to get the flu but I think I caught up with the madness over the weekend.  Iowa State picked up three commitments this week and lost one.  The early signing period begins Wednesday and ends on Friday.  After that date, everyone must wait until February 6th, 2019.  The class is currently ranked 37th in the 247 Sports Team Rankings, which would be the Cyclones highest finish ever.  On to the commitments from this week.

Graduate transfer QB John Kolar (Norman, Okla.), brother of ISU tight end Charlie Kolar, will transfer from Oklahoma State to Iowa State for his final year of collegiate football.  Kolar was rated as the No. 9 Dual-threat QB and No. 286 overall in the 2015 class, you can read Jared’s commitment article here.

Next up on the commitment list was wide receiver Ezeriah Anderson (Seffner, Fla.), who committed on Sunday following his official visit.  Anderson is rated as the No. 102 WR and No. 824 overall in the 2019 class.  The Cyclones had recently offered on November 21st, overcoming reported offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, FAU, Missouri, Oregon, Rutgers, Syracuse, USF and Virginia, among others.  Read more and check out his highlight video here.

The third commitment and the second official visitor from this weekend to commit on Sunday was tight end Skylar Loving-Black (San Jose, Calif.).  Rated as the No. 73 TE and No. 1832 overall, Loving-Black chose ISU over Arizona State, Boise State, Colorado, UConn, Fresno State, Nebraska and Oregon State, to name a few.  His offer was also recent, November 27th, and you can see highlights and more info from Jared here.

BASKETBALL LATEST:

*** Steve Prohm visited 2019 combo guard Clarence Nadolny (Paris, France) last Monday, according to Adam Zagoria of ZAGSBLOG.com.  Nadolny has an offer from Georgetown and is one of the targets ISU is keeping tabs on in case a scholarship is freed up following this season.

*** Iowa State once again visited 2020 power forward Ben Carlson (St. Paul, Minn.) last week, according to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.com.  The legacy recruit has 14 power 6 offers and is rated as the No. 9 PF in the class.

*** The staff watched a practice of 2020 power forward Chris Moore (West Memphis, Ark.),  according to Kevin McPherson of Hogville.net.  The Cyclones offered in June and he visited in August.  Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Memphis, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and TCU have all offered from the P6 ranks.

FOOTBALL LATEST:

*** The class suffered it’s third (by my count) defector for the 2019 class this week, as athlete DK Blaylock announced his “Recruitment is 100% open” via Twitter.  He is rated as the No. 55 ATH and No. 828 overall.  After an offer on April 25th, he committed on an official visit on June 24th.  Illinois and North Texas are thought to be possible destinations.

*** Iowa State picked up a preferred walk-on commitment from offensive guard Will Clapper (Baxter, Iowa) this week.  Clapper, who is 6’3″ and 280-pounds, visited on November 10th for the Baylor game.

*** Aside from the two commitments who took official visits this weekend, ISU hosted three others for officials.  Linebacker commit Aric Horne (Jacksonville, Fla.) made his way to Ames for the second time, after committing on his first visit in June.   Wide receiver Ahmarean Brown (Tampa, Fla.) was offered on December 5th and has also taken officials to Minnesota and Georgia Tech.  Cornerback Tyreke Harrison (Plant City, Fla.) was offered the same day.  He has been committed to Georgia State, where he officially visited last weekend, since June.

*** ISU offensive tackle commit Jarrod Hufford (Newark, Ohio) moved up seven spots at his position and 52 overall to the No. 865 player for 2019.

*** The Cyclones offered safety Tyrone Lewis Jr. (Hammond, La.) last week.  Lewis took official visits to Kansas State (Dec. 1) and Tulane (Dec. 8) and has eight total P5 offers.

*** Iowa State offered JUCO offensive tackle TJ Storment (Fullerton, Calif.), who is currently pledged to Colorado State.  It sounds like Storment said thanks, no thanks, and will sign with Colorado State on Wednesday.

*** Cornerback Dontae Manning (Kansas City, Mo.), class of 2020, visited Ames last weekend.  He was offered on a visit back on October 27th, and also holds a Virginia Tech offer.  In-state 2020 defensive tackle Logan Jones (Council Bluffs) was also in for a visit.  Jones was offered on September 13th, 2017 and visited this season on September 1st.  Jones has also been offered by Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan State and Purdue.

*** Iowa state handed out offers to three prospects for the class of 2020 this week.  Center Andrew Ueli-Fa’atoalia (La Habra, Calif.) holds offers from Arizona State, New Mexico and Washington State.  Offensive guard Drake Metcalf (Bellflower, Calif.) has offers from Arizona State, Hawaii and Oregon.  Running back Marcellus Moore (Plainfield, Ill.) has been offered by Purdue and Western Kentucky.

*** Six new offers were extended to the class of 2021.  OLB Dink Jackson (Melbourne, Fla.) holds offers from Baylor, Bowling Green, Florida Atlantic and Kentucky.  ISU was the first offer for RB Tank Young (Overland Park, Kan.).  WR Agiye Hall (Plant City, Fla.) has offers from Auburn, Indiana, Maryland, UNC, Rutgers, South Carolina, UCF, USF, and West Virginia.  OT Brody Wisecarver (St. Louis, Mo.) has one offer from Kentucky.  Running backs Taj Butts (St. Louis, Mo.) and Rico Barfield (St. Louis, Mo.) both have offers from Purdue.
