Recruiting Roundup: March 23, 2018

(From the editor: All rankings information via the free portion of 247 Sports database. Visit information, etc., has been compiled through prospect information on Twitter and sourcing within Cyclone Fanatic.)

This is the first time in a while that I can remember no offers being extended for an entire week for football or basketball.  Football is preparing for a bunch of visitors this weekend as spring football practice starts up this week.

THE LATEST:

*** Iowa State is among the leaders for power forward Luke Anderson (Lakeland, Fla.), who became the first high interest target in the 2019 class.  Joining ISU as leaders for his services are Georgia Tech, Notre Dame and Xavier.  The Cyclones were his first high major offer on August 8th.  Offers from KSU, Ole Miss, and Xavier followed.  Georgia Tech and Notre Dame have not yet offered.

*** Cornerback Justin Harris (Dayton, Ohio) named Iowa State and Cincinnati as schools that he is most interested in.  Minnesota offered on the 15th and he was supposed to visit Ames and Minnesota this weekend, but has postponed the visits.  Harris is rated as the No. 47 CB in the class and has 11 offers, including Indiana, Kentucky and Pittsburgh as Power 5 offers.  The Cyclones offered in November.

*** Wide receiver Bryce Childress (St. Louis, Mo.) released a top 7 via Twitter on Wednesday.  Iowa State joined Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Toledo and Western Michigan on the list.  His offer came from ISU in October.

*** Looking forward to the class of 2020, pro-style quarterback Riley Keller (Toledo, Ohio) has leaders of Iowa State and West Virginia.  The Cyclones offered back in December. Keller also holds offers from Ole Miss, Bowling Green, Toledo and Western Michigan.

*** Braden Foster, who had accepted a preferred walk-on opportunity with the Cyclones in the 2018 class, has decommitted to attend Grand View.

VISITORS:

*** The Cyclones hosted a trio of Kansas City, Mo., prospects on Wednesday.  2020 DE Johnny Wilson, DT James Gore and CB Javion Gathrite made visits to Ames for the first day of Spring practice.  Gathrite is the only one with an offer at this point, having received the blessing last April.

*** Commits Jake Remsburg and Easton Dean will be in town this weekend.  Dean will be making his third visit in the last two months.  Remsburg has pretty much taken up residence in Ames, coming to town any time there is an important recruiting weekend.

*** Three Springfield, Ohio natives are visiting this weekend.  Defensive tackle Isaiah Gibson (1/23/18 Offer), safety Moses Douglass (5/2/16 Offer) and receiver Mike Brown-Stephens (No Offer) are in Ames Friday before heading to Minnesota Saturday.

*** Defensive end Blake Peterson has long been a top target for the staff, as he makes his 7th visit since the Cyclones offered last February.  Peterson announced his commitment to Iowa State on Saturday morning.

*** Other expected visitors for the 2019 class include OG Conrad Rowley (Blue Springs, Mo.), OT Damon Kaylor (Huntington, Ind.), RB Derrick Wise II (Fort Smith, Ark.), SDE Darius Robinson (Canton, Miss.), CB Josh DeBerry (Warren, Miss.), and ATH Alec Pell (Englewood, Co.).

*** Quarterback J.J. McCarthy, a 2021 target out of Illinois, will make his third visit to Ames this weekend.  Iowa State became his first and only offer June 10th.  McCarthy received the second blessing given by the staff for the ’21 class, five days after the first offer to lineman Damon Payne.
