Recruiting Roundup: March 17, 2018

Slower week on the offer front for Matt Campbell and the football staff with just four offers being extended.  Steve Prohm and staff handed out a couple offers this week for the 2019 class.

THE LATEST:

*** Iowa State’s top target for the 2018 class, graduate transfer safety J.T. Ibe from Rice University, chose the South Carolina Gamecocks over Iowa State and Indiana last weekend.  He took official visits to all three schools, with his visit to Ames Feb. 2nd-4th.

*** Cornerback Joseph Thompson named a top four of Illinois, ISU, Northern Illinois and Toledo on Monday with plans to announce a commitment soon.  Thompson received an offer from the Cyclones on Feb. 8th and visited Feb. 24th.

*** New high interest target Tavian “Tae” Mayo, out of Leesburg, Ga., has a top four of Iowa State, Michigan, Minnesota and Nebraska.  ISU extended an offer Feb. 15th.

*** Steve Prohm visited 2018 signees Talen Horton-Tucker and Tyrese Haliburton this week.  He also attended the Kentucky (2019 PG/SG Dekeyvan Tandy) and Minnesota (2020 PG Jalen Suggs, 2020 PF Ben Carlson, 2020 C Dain Dainja) state tournaments this week.

BASKETBALL OFFERS:

*** Iowa State offered Bettendorf point guard D.J. Carton on Friday.  The Cyclones join Wisconsin, Creighton, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas State, Marquette, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Ohio State as some of the schools who have offered Carton.

*** The Cyclones offered shooting guard Mario McKinney Jr. on Thursday.  The St. Louis native has offers including Missouri, Auburn, DePaul, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas State, Marquette, and Xavier.

FOOTBALL OFFERS:

*** Offensive Guard Chance Billington (Tyler, Texas) received his first Power 5 offer this week from the Cyclones.  His other offers are from SMU, Jackson State and Texas State.

*** LaCarea Pleasant-Johnson (Phoenix, Ariz.) was the first of three cornerbacks offered this week, as ISU joined Colorado, Florida, Missouri, and Northern Arizona as suitors.

*** Lackawanna Community College cornerback Jaquan Brisker (Monroeville, Penn.) received his 6th offer from Iowa State this week.  Brisker holds offers from Penn State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Maryland and Temple.

*** CB K.J. Trujillo (Orange, Calif.) was the final offer of the week.  In addition to the Cyclones, he holds offers from Colorado, Oregon, Colorado State, Nevada, San Jose State and Utah State.
