Christofferson on Naismith list; Johnson honored by Big 12

Christofferson named to Naismith List 

ATLANTA, Ga. – Senior forward Hallie Christofferson was named to the Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Monday.

So far this season the Hamlin, Iowa native is shooting an incredible 56.9 percent from the field and 44 percent from long. She has also knocked down 30-of-32 free throw attempts. Christofferson is averaging team-highs in points (26.8) and rebounds (8.5) after four games this season. She opened the season with two double-double performances.

Christofferson proved she is also as much a force on the road as she is in the confines of Hilton Coliseum, going 15-of-19 over the last two road games for an incredible 78.9 percent.

Christofferson has also been named to the John Wooden Award Watch List and has already earned weekly honors for her performance by the Big 12 and College Sports Madness this season.

Johnson named Big 12 Freshman of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Iowa State women’s basketball freshman Seanna Johnson was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday. 

Seanna Johnson had two double-digit scoring efforts this week as Iowa State faced two opponents on the road. Johnson also recorded her first-career double-double in Iowa State’s win at Drake Sundaywith career-highs in points (14) and rebounds (11). Johnson shot 50 percent from the field this week and 60 percent from long. She also knocked down 80 percent of her free throws. Iowa State was also the only team in the Big 12 to play two road games this week and win both contests.

This is her first career weekly honor and the second for Iowa State this season, as senior Hallie Christofferson was named Player of the Week earlier this season.

Johnson and the No. 23/16 Iowa State Cyclones return to the court on Friday at 9:30 p.m. to take on Eastern Washington in the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas.
