SMU isn’t really a “religious” school. It was founded by (and still owned by, I think) the Methodist Church, but the church isn’t involved in running the curriculum and lets the educational administration run things however they see fit. The school claims to be officially non-sectarian.

From what I’ve heard, TCU does require one ‘religion’ class for all students, but it can be as simple as watching a movie with religious themes and writing a paper on it, so it’s not all that rigorous. TCU is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), but it’s only slightly more “religious” than SMU.

Baylor and the Baptists, on the other hand …
Baylor has always given me big Joel Osteen vibes.

Koresh spent considerable time in Fort Dodge/Otho recording at Junior's Motel during his career as a 'musician.'

I need to do an evil cult leaders power rankings sometime.

My initial instinct is Jim Jones would be #1, but this is one heck of a case --

Charles Manson writing songs for the Beach Boys is up there, too.

That had to be the biggest flame out of any recruiting class in our basketball program.

Where did his class compare to THT's or the one with LW?

That 3-4 year stretch certainly flamed out vs. what were high recruiting rankings.

Wigginton was a big hit -- he did make it to the NBA, after all.
Lewis was a huge bust. He just never developed.

2019
---
Honestly one of the best recruiting classes in school history.
Haliburton was a lottery pick. THT is having a nice early NBA career.
Zion was a total bust. Conditt developed slowly but was okay as an upperclassman.

2020
---
Anderson and Leech LOL left after like a week.
Jackson was a nice kid but didn't belong at a high-major program.
Grill, the prodigal son, is at least a good bench/rotation guy.

2021
---
Walker, Dubar, Blackwell, and Foster... yeesh.

So there were some hits -- Wigginton, Haliburton, Horton-Tucker, and I could maybe argue Grill and Conditt were/are at least adequate for their star ratings. A starting five of those five isn't half-bad.

But the rest... barf.

Don't forget the addition of Lard.

There's been some successes individually in there but the revolving door of the program from those groups turned into quite a jumble to put it lightly.

I believe Lard was the previous season -- arrived between semesters and redshirted in the spring before being eligible (after, you know, stuff happens) and then dominating at times as a freshman.

I don't think I've ever seen a more talented guy buts so hard as did Cameron Lard. He had the juice to be a Big 12 CPOTY-level guy and play in the NBA but instead he amounts to nothing.

Can't remember what official year he was but he came in with LW.

There were times when they were a real Ying-Yang type of deal and hard to defend.

He came off his spring-semester redshirt to be a RS-fresh when Wigginton was a true fresh.
