Lets be honest... a good portion of our fanbase is loaded coming into the stadium anyways. Might as well make some money off of it. Every pro venue sells alcohol, its obviously not some huge issue.

From what i've been told though, JP is pretty strongly against selling it.

Not sure where you are getting this, but I am pretty sure I remember hearing JP on the radio talking about the possibility of benchmarking WVU's practice of selling alcohol.

Beer a growing part of college football revenue streams - USATODAY.com

Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard is more open-minded.
"I'm torn on the idea of making it available to everyone in the stadium," he said. "While I was once against it, I also realize that it's clearly a significant revenue stream in a day when we have to create revenue."

I always wondered why ISU and Hickory Park didn't have some kind of partnership to have food catered into basketball/football games. It would be easy for both parties and they could both make a killing off of it at a concession stand on both sides of JTS and Hilton.

I dont know why people on here think we cant handle alcohol in the stadium during the game. I have been to every ISU game at arrowhead and one Iowa game plus several bowl games that sell beer and i dont recall reading about how there was a riot in the stadium or kids getting beer dumped all over them or hearing about a 20 car pile-up with drunken cyclone fans being the cause.

Everyone is already drunk when they are in the stadium, plus people bring beer in. Why not charge for it so I can have a beer during the game?

Sell beer at JTS and the weekly thread about people not coming back at halftime disappears.

I still think there would be a fair amount of people that leave to drink their own rather than spend money at the concessions. I think there would be less people that would leave though.

You guys are way off base. Drinking is evil and ISU will NOT promote it. Tsk. tsk.

On a completely unrelated note, I got an ISU Shot Glass for Christmas. Looks really nice next to my ISU Beer Mug and Bud Light banner from an ISU game. :jimlad:

This would make sense if people weren't already boozing in Jack Trice.

Alot of the folks in my section have flasks or a beer or two with them at the games. Not just young guys either.

Agree.

The vast majority of people buying beer at games are going to be people with no interest in getting loaded. The students will still drink their ***es off before games and sneak in booze and beers just like we always did. The people buying beers at the concessions stands are going to be older guys like me and my dad. We'll max out at about six beers between us and it will be watered down and over-priced. The idea of selling beer at JTS is so innocuous I'm shocked we're not already doing it.

I went to the UConn game this year and they sold beer at the game. At like $10/beer it makes a nice profit and at that price it also keeps individuals from buying a ton (well not me because I was on vacation).

I am pretty sure that JP is for promoting a family environment which is why he is against it. There might be a lot of upset parents if fans started throwing beer and it lands on their kids. If fans have to bring in their own then they are probably a lot less likely to throw it.

Is there a lot of soda throwing? There would be the same amount of beer throwing.

Yeah, and i'd wager that what people think is all 'people who left the stadium' in empty seats is more likely to be just 'people who havent gotten through the restroom\concessions lines yet'. Some of those lines can be a disaster sometimes.

No word yet on if the assault on Cy had any relation to the beer sales.

explains why you shouldn't roadtrip to wvu with full isu regalia adorning your car.

No, you would be ok with some flags, bumper stickers, etc....just don't drive by flipping the bird as you pass out tailgates and talk a lot of *****...as that won't work out too good with or without us serving beer. Come by and say "hey" during tailgates and we will treat you to a beer and welcome you to West B'God....

As Cyclones we would never do this.
