AMES, Iowa – Iowa State wrestling head coach Kevin Dresser continues to build the recruiting class of 2018. He's announced the addition of seven preps, and one junior college product that are set to arrive in Ames this fall.

The cyclones.com website lists 25 wrestlers, this article lists 15 incoming, plus Miklus transferring is 41 wrestlers in the room.

Breakout is:

Seniors - 4
Juniors - 6
Sophomores - 7
Freshmen - 24 (14 are incoming, 10 are coming off redshirt)

This is definitely a build from the ground up - I like it. With all the turnover that has happened, I really believe that this coaching staff is putting the type of wrestlers that they want into the program. Nice to hear that Dresser likes what he is seeing as well.

Was Tate Battani left off for a reason or is he just a junior or included earlier?

Cyclone.com article was updated to add Tate Battani

I looked up Leisure’s results on WrestleStat a few months ago. I didn’t see any quality wins. Maybe I’m misremembering. Is there any buzz about how is doing in the wrestling room or within the program?

The depth chart looks good except for the weight class for a few of the kids. Mulder and Battani will probably be 157/165. As mention Leisure will back up 141 and 149. He’ll need some major improvement to compete for a spot. I think Buesgens will be 184 and Schumacher 174. I would consider 165 and 285 as toss-ups. Also, 125 could be interesting if Small goes down and doesn’t RS.

That’s not real encouraging to hear about Leisure. I like Degen and Parker but I didn’t think he’d be that far behind. Thought he was a kid that would be a player for us at some point.

Tough crowd...pretty sure he was the only kid on the team to wrestle all the open tournaments. Won most of his matches. There are some bumps along the way with health, inj, school etc. but premature to write any kid off after 1 season....all those kids are battling.

On a positive note---I think if Colbray holds 184 he will be outstanding!

Agree on Leisure. Needs to stay healthy. I think he had a great redshirt year

Leisure had a very solid redshirt year. He was certainly not a blue chip recruit and shouldn't be expected to step into the lineup his freshman year and make a bunch of noise. He is they type of recruit that adds good depth and that I hope can make an impact in the starting lineup before he graduates.

He has to be completely dedicated to living the lifestyle of eating health everyday and working out as he should. I don't recall much success from guys dropping weights. This was one of KJ's issues as he always had kids cutting a bunch of weight. I have no idea what Colbray's walk around weight is, but think he would be a huge 184. Time will tell if he can do it successfully, but here's hoping!

Agree. I've heard different things about Leisure than Cywr89 has apparently..

I’m not writing off Leisure. At least that wasn’t what I was trying to convey. I think him pushing for the starting spot this year at 141 is a stretch. I agree that he can grow and develop in the next year or two and contribute down the road.

Well, for one, Degan is knocking on the door of being an AA. Leisure is just not at that level, so I agree with Cywr89. And I also agree that at this point he wasn't expected to be an AA. And that doesn't mean he won't get there. Still just a RS frosh this fall.

I am a Leisure fan. I think he is actually at or exceeding expectations coming out of high school and think he will make big contributions if he keeps it up

I don't think he beats Degen*, I have always been a huge fan of Degen and wasn't surprised to see his success. IF Leisure makes 141, he has closed the gap a lot on Parker a lot more than people seem to think.

Degen and Parker are still the top guys at their respective weights. I only pointed out most kids don't reach full potential after their first year. All those kids are tough. As our room battles get tougher---our product/team will get even better.
