Worst was probably working for ISU dining.

This. Seriously, they give you **** for hours and everyone you served was an *******.

Best: Landscaping. Outside all day, good pay, and you get to drive all over town. PLUS, you get to play in the dirt, and if it's rainy you get the day off. I need to remember to apply for this job in February, but keep forgetting.

One summer I worked night maintenance at a department store in the mall. I was locked in from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m., could get everything done in 3 hours, got a good 6 hours sleep. Spent my days at the beach or on the golf course.

12am to 8am Tyson. All I have to say. Do that and let me know if thats something you want to do. Not cool. 590 bucks w/o taxes every week Thursday but really I'd rather not. I'm 21 I'll take that money but where I live there is no where else to work. I have the day off. May as well drink beer.

I grew up on a farm, and worked pretty much all the time growing. I never detassled in my life, and I actually think it's more common work for kids who grow up in rural areas, but not ON a farm, as most farmers don't really plant commercial seed corn. Another thing I noticed is that the jobs that sucked when I was 12 became enjoyable by the time I was 18.

Worst job: cleaning out an elevator scale pit. The pit was 4 feet high, so you were bent over the whole time. We were scooping out the 2 foot high layer of rotten corn and mud. One guy scooped it into a bucket, and another guy outside of the pit, hauled the bucket out of the pit on a rope. It was August, and about 90 degrees outside, and we were doing it in the afternoons after football 2-a-days. Ugh.

Best job: current one. I work at a driving range, and when I'm not groundskeeping, I'm sitting behind a counter doing about an hour's worth of real actual work every day. Lot's of time to read.

How long does it take to get through the comics in the newspaper?

Best: Ran a pro-shop at a golf course. Worked 5:30-2, then got to play 18-36 holes every day.

Worst: Did an internship at Aegon, stuck in an office with 13 older women, all they did was stand around and talk all day about the stupidest ****. Longest 3 months of my life.

best: still waiting for it, I think, but probably my current job

worst: I was dumb enough to get a part time job at Petco stocking shelves. It ended up pretty much consisting of me picking up dog poop from customer's dogs they bring into the store. Quit after a couple of months when some lady's giant dog had loose stool in several spots in the store and the lady just walked out. I was asked to clean it up. I said no. They said yes. I quit.

Worst: ISU Foundation Call Center

Best: DJ at Welch Ave. Station - Hourly wage plus tips, and half price alcohol when I wasn't working: Sam Adams Cherry Wheat for the price of Old Milwaukee. I did 2 nights a week, one of them being Classic Rock Night. I would have paid them to give me access to their incredible record collection!

I worked HS and most of college as a pollinator for a farm research company near my hometown. By the end of HS, I got promoted and pretty much got to do everything else besides polinating by the time I was done I was making pretty good money. Spent the early writing row tags at a kitchen table for 8 hours a day while watching TV and no superiors around. Had my girlfriend (now wife) come help me and they started to pay her as well. That was OK but the best was working for
KLMJ-Hampton for an internship in college.
Got to do a little but of everything but mainly did play by play for softball and baseball games at night. Did a couple DJ shifts. Also did a lot of appearances and town celebrations and to this day (at last report) still hold the Ackley sauerkraut days sauerkraut eating title after eating a pound of kraut and 2 weiners in 64 seconds. They had billed this as a competition to beat me and it wasn't even close. Also loved driving the van in town celebrations and everyone thinking I was pretty cool throwing them worthless CDs out the window.

Ah, KLMJ. The voice of Franklin County. Sauerkraut days were last week, IIRC. When were you in H-town?

I worked there through college 2000-'02
Sauerkraut days were 2 weeks ago. I was canoing in Steamboat Rock and the owner of "The Frozen Gator" said it was back for business.

Ah. My sister lives in Wellsburg and I know she and my mom went to Sauerkraut days, I couldn't remember if it was last week or two weeks ago. I like sauerkraut and all, but a whole pound in 64 seconds? Yikes.

Worst: I lifeguarded for three summers. All the girls that came to the pool were 10-12 (no early bloomers either). The rest of the lifeguards were all female and refused to do any real work (i.e. cleaning the bathrooms, sweeping the bottom of the pool, etc.). I think the single worst experience was when a pair of 10 year old boys decided it would be a good idea to write things on the wall of the bathroom in their own poop.

worst summer job: commercial roofing: very tough work, crazy hot, and constant badgering for being the owners son

best summer job: coaching baseball: great group of kids, coached freshman ball and assisted the varsity, there were many days my day would start at 7 am and get over after 11 pm, but well worth it always being around a diamond - 2nd at state that year too. it was a very rewarding job
