I agree that NWB needs to stay out there as much as humanly possible, but if NWB never again forces another bad attempt at the end of the half/game with 4 seconds still left on the clock, I will be a happy man. Either Shayok or Wiggs is my preference for those forced last second shots if we aren't going to run a set play. THT would be okay, but my 3rd choice.
You remember the ending of the KSU game at home?

Shayok would be my preference, but we’ve got 4 guys the staff has confidence in

Wiggs defense is what holds him back. He has the tools to be a great on ball defender. Not sure why he can't do it.

I think for his entire career he has depended on his athletic ability to block shots. Learning to stay in front of someone when you are used to letting them by and blocking their shot can be tough. Big 12 guards know how to get into your body to draw a foul.

He doesn't get enough credit for his rebounds. He just goes up and over much bigger guys and then snags the ball very strongly.

Yeah, I remember one possession, which normally happens to ISU, where there were 3 K-state guys under the rim and Wiggy jumped up and grabbed the ball. Normally that ball bounces the other way.

He'll need to figure out how to stay in front of his man if he wants to sniff the NBA. For as athletic as he is, it amazes me how his man always seems to blow by him with ease. He certainly has the potential to play in the NBA, but he's just not ready.

Uhhh, they only play defense in the playoffs when it matters so he'll be fine haha.

Unless he continues shooting like he did vs KSU. He's already at almost 40% from 3's, which includes the early games after his recovery when he couldn't hit the broad side of the barn.

Overall, I think it's safe to say that he has improved. He has proven his shooting. Handles the ball better. Better passing. Less forcing of shots. I agree that it will take a really, really strong finish to the year to get drafted.
If he continues to shoot 3Ps well, say finish above 40%, he’s going to have a good chance to get drafted imo.

I’m not sure how much the age thing will work against him, or his defense, but some team is going to love him in workouts and testing. The injury narrative should help, both in excusing some struggles and in his willingness to be a team player and come off the bench following injury. I also think the staff helped him with this role they’ve created for him. Better to leave some questions unanswered while excelling as a scorer and team guy off the bench imo.

I think one of the impressive moves by Steve this year is understanding what LW is trying to accomplish personally and allowing him to play that way but in a framework that allows this team to "max out." I look at Lindell Wiggington as playing a Vinnie Johnson role. He is an off-the ball elite scorer/shooter. He is not a great on-ball defender yet but has elite athleticism which allows him to be an above-average rebounder and help defender. He is just average in his decision-making with the ball in his hands. So you give him 20-25 minutes a game and let him be an off the ball scorer. By limiting his minutes and time with the ball in his hands you help curtail some of the negatives and yet still give him the great light to score points in bunches.
Getting the kid to buy-in was incredibly important but it was a great move by CSP to explain to LW that this actually benefits him as well when it comes to his draft stock.
