Why does everyone think our schedule is brutal?

Clone2theBone, you never answered my question: If we go 7-5 yet win the North, will that satisfy you?? Or are you stuck on 8 wins or bust?

If we win the North, I would be content for now, but I don't think it's possible that a 7-5 team will win it outright.

"I'm not the one complaining" was in reference to the post that won't go away.

ISU does have top tier players at many positions, not all, but many. Iowa rarely has the best talent in the league, yet they seem to do ok. N-western has done it with lesser talent.

Blythe, Berryman, Meyer, Curvey, Hobbs, Seneca. We haven't been w/out talent.

Sure it's possible...we could go 1-3 in our non-conference schedule and go 6-2 in the Big 12. Not likely but technically possible. So you would be happy "for now" by only playing in the Big 12 title game and the next year you would expect to win the Big 12 championship and the year after that only a national championship would suffice for Mac to keep his job...is that how it would work?

And how many of those superstar players are on the O-line? That's the key in our entire offense.

I'm not unreasonable, so don't try to paint me as such. We've been taking baby steps for the last 6 years, stubbing our toes just before we get ready to make a big leap.

Obviously not. This is what's funny. Many of you act as though the expectations that Mac is under are completely unreasonable. They're not. They only appear so because many of you think it would the greatest thing ever if we won the Big 12 North. The end all for our program. Don't get me wrong, it would be great, but there are bigger fish to fry.

No one is expecting Mac to make ISU into USC.

Ahhh...you just conceded that ISU is continuing to make progress. So...why fire a coach while the program is still moving forward?

People have their sights set on a North title because it has escaped us for the last two years. To reiterate...not a single person here will disagree with the statement "we should have won the North the past 2 seasons". You just won't find any fans that will say "no, we had no business winning the North". While we fell short...progress was still made. We did not endure any complete beatings as in years past.

However, that's behind us. This is 2006. You can either choose to accept that and root for D-Mac, his staff and the players...or continue being the blow-hard that is waiting for him to fail.

And yeah...there are the D-Mac haters out there that I swear...would rather watch him fail and get fired than have him take ISU to the next level.

Hey, I like Mac and want him to kick the door down. I really do whether you believe that or not.

If we have a great year this year, I'll be the 1st to sing his praises.

If you want to construe baby steps as proof we're making progress, that's fine, but at this pace, I'll be dead prior to getting to where I want to go.

You won't get many people to believe that when over half your existence on this site has been this very thread...one designed to rip on D-Mac...up and down.

If you want to construe baby steps as proof we're making progress, that's fine, but at this pace, I'll be dead prior to getting to where I want to go.

Baby steps are in fact...steps. Should I draw a picture for you?

A program never progresses as the rate fans want. I wanted us to (and thought we should have) win the North in '02. We didn't. We should have been playing in San Antonio or San Diego the last 2 years. Again, we didn't.

Was I glad? Did I sing praises? No. Yet I also realized, amid the disappointment advancements and improvements were made. Unlike yourself, I like to think I have a wide view of the program rather than a very, very narrow one.

Shortcuts in football don't exist. If they did...everyone would take them...including ISU. Success does not come without hard work, sacrifice and setbacks. Dan and his staff continue to push forward, regardless of what gets in their way, even if it's their own players. It's a mentality I appreciate and eventually, will provide great benefit to the program.

There is nothing to gain from living in the "what could have been in '04 & '05"...crying and whining about it. The only thing that will do is haunt the players further when they should be focusing on fundamentals, execution and winning games.

Plus...there are plenty of fans that'll do that "what could have been" for 'em. :)

PS. It’s become quite clear no one can get through to you. So…here’s my white flag. I give up. Bye-bye.

WE keep progressing and will be on top at end of 20 years from start of McC. The key is to keep getting better.

Personally I was happy with the play of the defense last year. They looked the best in memory. We will not match that level this year with all the defense newbies and high powered offenses. What IU will look for is for the offense to play better at the end of the game and especially in overtime. We basically looked scare in overtime on offense. With all those ot games, we should be experienced. Seemed like first and ten was a weak play and then we never recovered in overtime.

We've been taking baby steps for 12 years, when are we going to learn how to walk?

btw, I saw on another website that our Offense rated 77th in the country last year. Is this true? I thought we were a lot better then that.

Baby steps after 12 years are unacceptable. I don't think I've said anything unfair about Mac and certainly have never ripped him up and down. Your perception is wrong.

Mediocre is not good enough and thus far, that's as good as we've gotten.

Mac is lucky to have fans like you with your "wide view" of the program instead of more fans like me with my realistic view.

You only get so many chances for greatness. When those chances present themselves, it's best if you don't continually **** them down your leg. Winning the north wouldn't even be greatness, but it would be a step in that direction.

You say yourself that we should've won the north in '02. We obviously should've won it in '04 and '05. As you know, we did not win any of those 3 years we should've. Notice a pattern here???? Nah, we'll just cross our fingers and hope that things will go our way in the future. As long as the north continues to suck, we'll still have hope.

I accept your surrender.
