Why do you like or dislike American Idol?

Granted, you have to be into singing. I happen to enjoy it and was raised in a musical environment. (My father sang in a professional Barbershop Quartet for forty years)
I can't help but think that it is a forum not otherwise available where you can really show your stuff.
There is a lot of other things going on within the shows' production, but opportunities like these are rare indeed, and these people are lucky to have this outlet. Does the best singer always win? No. But then, at least you have been heard.
Just wonder what others think.
Thank you.

Part of the reason I dislike American Idol is that the people that make it on tv aren't necessarily the best, but the ones that are best for the ratings. Which I suppose is what they are really after, so it makes sense from their perspective.

An example is the guy who sang "She Bangs" awhile back. There is no way he was legitimately better than the people in his region or district or whatever they use.

Also, it disrupts my regular tv schedule.

Because they merely bully and mock people throughout the first round or whatever.

Yes, they do, and I really hate that part of the show. I suppose it is done for the ratings.

What I want to know is what everyone thinks of the show once the "final twelve" of each season has been selected.

So far, noone seems to care for the way the show is handled.

Does anyone out there like the show?
Thanks

Edit: I guess I am looking for some folks to share PM's with
as the season progresses.

I like Simon, and i enjoy the absolute disasters in the first few weeks. Once it gets "serious" I stop watching entirely. The judges aside from Simon are awful.

I watch the show religiously. I really like the changes this year so far. I'm glad we get to see the top 36 perform their own song choice. I don't know that adding a fourth judge did anything special for the show. Its just one more opinion that doesn't matter. Simon is really the only one that gives constructive criticism and obviously sways votes with his views. I have watched from season two forward and haven't gotten bored with the show yet. My favorite show that was modeled after AI was Rockstar and I hope it comes back for a third season some time. I agreed with the votes last week and think anoop will get a wild card. I also think there are probably 24 really good singers and 12 karaoke singers left. Looking forward to Tuesday.

It's a glorified karaoke contest. I can't change the channel fast enough when I accidently come across it.

I dislike the whole premise. First off, what's his name gets stupid rich off of the show. Then, should you win, you are forced to sign a contract with him.

I've only seen it a few times. I wasn't entertained and changed the channel every time. If I want to watch people that can't sing I'll go to a bar and make fun of them myself.

If I were to watch it, this would be the best part of the show. People who can't sing worth a lick but are greedy and trying to make it big being kicked down a few notches is enjoyable to watch.
