Why did you choose to go to ISU?

Another brain-washed 2nd generation cyclone here...

I started as an engineer, though I had no idea what an engineer did, switched to poly sci, switched to psych, switched to accounting, and finally switched back to engineering all freshman year. (which for me took 18 months) :wink0st:

Not in the civil club though, electrical.

You can't spell "geek" without "EE".

I, too, wanted to be an engineer and had some good test scores coming out of high school so I was fortunate enough to get a really good scholarship from ISU. I came up from Kansas to visit and was blown away by the campus. It immediately knocked K-State down a notch and my decision came down to a good small liberal arts school in Kansas and ISU. My desire to experience something different led me to Ames and honestly the reputation of Hilton Magic had something to do with it since I wanted to experience bigtime athletics. (My freshman year they went to the elite 8 so I guess that worked out)

If you guys want to hear my story I will tell you why I chose Iowa State over Kansas, Texas and Alabama Birmingham. It's not boring but I want to make sure people want to hear real stories here. My heart goes for ISU for good and bad times because of the decisions I made to continue my education at Iowa State - it has nothing to do with cyclone sports.
I'm curious. That's a pretty wide geographic area of schools to choose from.

Only school that I applied to and thanks to Devine Intervention I was accepted. I didn’t major in engineering, but I lived with two engineers throughout college. I remember them cursing “Fluid God-Damicks” in particular!

I am starting to think I should have went for Engineering. Look at all the free time you have to post during the work day.:wink0st:
I have an Ag. Bus. degree, but majored in girls and drinking.

HA!!! Perfect post... sorry guys, but it's funny!!!

I came to ISU the summer before my senior year of HS for football camp (kicking camp) and decided to take a tour of the campus...well, that was a huge sell...then I realized after some research that the school had one of the top public Architecture programs and, thus I went there for 5 of the greatest years of my life!!! The campus, the academics, the sports teams to love!!!

I came for the Vet. Med. program. Then decided to go into landscape arch. Then after that I went into elementary education. After that, my wife and I moved away before I could graduate in computer science. =( I will always wish I had that ISU degree. I have always loved ISU, so coming there for the Vet Med program was an easy choice for me.

Well, I'm from Nebraska, and was admitted to the U of Neb. I was going to go there, but something in my feeble brain told me I'd be better off going somewhere else, somewhere new, where I would not be under the influence to PARTAAAY with my high school buddies who were also going to U of N. But where to go? I was a diehard Husker fan; how could I not go to U of N? My older brother went to Northwestern in Illinois. When we went to see him we always drove right though Ames, and right next to campus on Lincolnway. One day it hit me....I'll go to Iowa State! It has a pretty campus. I was going to major in pre-med and go to medical school. I went to Ames with my dad for an on-campus inspection and interview. I told the guy we met with (some guy in the admittance office) that I wanted to go to med school, and that I assumed a state school like ISU had a medical school. He said, "no, but we have a veterinary medical school". I thought.."Gee, that would be kinda neat. I could become an animal doctor rather than a people doctor". That's how I ended up at ISU, and I became a veterinarian only because ISU did not have a medical school. Never been sorry for going to ISU, and never regretted being a vet rather than an MD. One of the best things was getting over being a Husker fan, and completely switching to "Clonism".

I am embarrassed to admit it, but I used a dart board between Iowa, Iowa State and Drake.

The first dart did hit Iowa, went best out of 3 and ended up at ISU.

Eventually getting a Political Science degree and close to a minor in music. I am proud that I went to Iowa State and wouldn't trade my experience there for anything.

I loved the Cyclones and I wanted to be an Electrical Engineer. No decision really needed to be made.

That's definitely true.

You should have been a civil engineer...there was a fine selection of good looking girls to choose from! :wink0st:

And by "fine selection"...I mean you could choose from 5 girls with one that was "reasonable" looking.

HAHA...yeah, my roommate was a CE major and always would come to my studio and walk around the College of Design so he could be reminded of the hotties in design and realized why I went that way!!! The scenery over there is worth spending the day (and night) there...

I grew up the product of a mixed marraige, ISU grad dad, UoI grad mom. Growing up I felt like the kid in those CY-Hawk commercials. I always cheered for ISU over Iowa, but I would cheer for Iowa when they didnt play us. After a few trips to campus throughout high school, I was just mesmerized, especially in comparison to Iowa. My senior year of high school, we went to the big game in Iowa City, when Seneca single handedly rallied us, and between that, the crappy campus, and Herky soaking me with a water gun for rocking ISU apparell in Kinnick, I was in the State camp. Later that month Playboy published their Top 25 Party Schools. We clocked in at #13. It was game over at that point.

Great idea for a thread!

I was actually a hawkeye fan (yes, I'm ashamed) before I went to Iowa State. The reason I went to Iowa State was for the engineering school.

Chalk up another civil engineer.

Same here; I was a hawkeye fan growing up. Then I went to ISU for Mechanical Engineering and have bled cardinal and gold since.
