Why did Hamilton not play much in 2nd half and OTs?

Houston's weave offense was killing the Cyclones in the second half. When GMcD put Colvin in for Garrett, along with Christopherson and Gilstrap, The weave offense fizzled out. Pretty simple to figure out if you were watching.

If you watch the games, for the most part he is boxing out their biggest/best rebounder on defense and is more concerned with that player NOT getting the rebound than getting it himself. I would bet a lot of money that this is what he is told to do. On offense is a different story and that's why you see him do a nice job getting putbacks there. I have been really pleased with his efforts on the defensive boards, yesterday he happened to have some of them bounce toward him, which was a bonus as he has been one of the few actually making contact, boxing out, and doing his job on the defensive boards. Watch him carefully next game when a shot goes up and you'll see what I mean...

I already know what you mean. I am sure he is told to box out the other teams center. I am also sure he is not told thats all he needs to do. Watch him more closely next game and you will see many rebounds go right over him as he is not quick enough to disengage from the man he is boxing out to move/jump and get the ball or control it when he gets a hand on it. I like Ham and hope he can improve and become more like Homan as an upperclassman, but he really needs to increase his footspeed, as of right now he is clearly a poor rebounder and not a good defender. I don't know how anyone can possibly be happy with 14 rebounds in 7 games from a true center, even if he is "boxing out their biggest/best rebounder."

Hamilton and Homan have the same skill set and talent. Homan just did it with a freakin attitude. That is what made his game. If Hamilton does not get an attitude and start pushing people around he will never be as good as Homan. He jsut won't.

Maybe growing up Hamilton didn't have any cows to protect, therefore never developed the toughness and killer instinct that Homan had.

“I’m just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard,â€￾ Eustachy joked. “If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, he’ll be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.â€￾

I wish WE could force the OTHER team to change THEIR lineup because our big guys make their 4 guard set look silly with points in the paint.

Alas, we always seem to get the losing side of the unbalanced equations.

I love it when Brackins, Gilstrap, and Dendy are on the court at once...that's a lot of athleticism and big play potential at once.

Some of you would understand things better if you'd run through the mind of a coach. A lot more goes into substituting than just throwing a guy out there.

a) matchups (If you're getting burned by a smaller, more athletic team, you have to go more athletic)
b) where does scoring come from (probably can't sit Brackins, DG, MG, etc. together)
c) the clock (Brackins always comes out when a media timeout is near)
d) hot hands (get the guy scoring more minutes)
e) court needs (specifically do you need a 3 point specialist, free throw specialist, etc.)

I understand why Ham didn't play a whole lot in the second half and at all in the OT's...

a) I've seen guys get pulled when they have had a matchup advantage before.
b) CB, DG, MG shouldn't be sitting AT ALL
c) when those 3 do sit..it should be shortly before the media timeouts anyways
d) Again..I've seen guys get pulled before who do have a hot hand...and that is extremely frustrating
e) the court needs yesterday were obviously to go as small as possible to try to match the quickness as Houston...
(but at the same time...why couldn't we have played zone...let them shoot 3s all day, and stay big on our end, leading to bunnies for us?)

One of the biggest things that has bugged me this season is that MG, DG, and CB have not been playing lots of minutes in the bigger games...Yesterday was the first time that Brackins played significant minutes...49 out of the 50 I believe, and MG had 42 and DG 39.

How many college basketball players play 40 minutes? Not very god damn many.
Are they every all sitting at the same time? I don't think I've seen it yet this year.
Some guys need more than a minute or two to recover.
I'm sure GMac takes out guys with a hot hand just to **** you off. Are you really that stupid? I realize you're on CAC and that doesn't carry a high intelligence with it, but do you honestly think GMac takes them out without reason? If you have a guy with a hot hand and there is 8:12 on the clock and he hasn't sat, you pull him so he can get in at the next dead ball. You try and steal a minute.

If Dendy went hard every minute he was on the floor I'd agree, but he looked realllllllllly lazy against Houston and didn't play very well in the few minutes he played. Throw in the UNI game and I'm not sure his court smarts are there. We take plenty of ill-advised shots already. :biglaugh:

Overreact much???
I never said they need to be averaging 40 minutes...But they do need to be averaging around 37 to 38...(ie Stinson and Blalock)

and I know that there is usually a reason behind why he pulls someone at a given time. It's just puzzling at times.

and Wow...taking a personal shot at my intelligence...real real mature.

I do apologize, but I hold being on CAC against you.

I should have reworded that better...when I said not sit at all, I meant sitting when we didn't even notice it...Like Stinson and Blalock.

It seemed like they were never out of the game, and thats because they were pulled 30 seconds before the media timeouts, then put back in after the timeout. Sorry for the confusion.

This is the guard set I meant when I thought Hamilton should stay in the game. Colvin and Christopherson are way better defenders than Lucca and Garrett. Pulling Ham wasn't the adjustment that stopped the weave. Don't know how many times I've seen those two guys (Lucca and Diante) get blown by that really makes our post players look bad. I do agree Ham's got some work to do on D, but if their gonna put a guard in there why not post him up and see what he can do. The kids got a knack for getting the ball in the hoop.

Do Colvin and Christopherson's lack of production offset the points they don't give up?

Colvin gets beat regularly. I think he'll get better, though.
