We’re going to have to make threes against Baylor since they have a significant size advantage against us on the interior. I like our chances of doing that, considering how well we’ve been shooting the ball lately.
I, for one, was shocked to see that late in the conference season Iowa State was dead last in three-point percentage, hovering at around 30 percent. “How could a Fred Hoiberg team shoot so poorly?†I asked myself, as I’m sure you all did.
Luckily, Iowa State has turned it around. They are shooting 54-136 (40 percent) from deep over the last six games, compared to their season average of 34.7 percent.
Let’s hope these Cyclones continue their recent hot streaks from beyond the arc:
DeAndre Kane: 14-24 (58 percent) in his last five games
Naz Long: 14-28 (50 percent) in his last six
A few of the guys who don’t shoot a ton of threes have been hot from outside:
Dustin Hogue: 5-9 (56 percent) in his last six
Monté Morris: 4-7 (57 percent) in his last five
Melvin Ejim: 4-9 (44 percent) in his last two, after coming off a cold streak of 3-16 (19 percent) in the prior five games
Unfortunately, a couple of Cyclones have struggled a little down the stretch.
Georges Niang started the year ice cold from beyond the arc, culminating in a forgettable 0-9 performance in Hilton against Kansas. However, in the following four games he shot 14-27 (52 percent). Since then, he has not shot threes especially well.
Georges Niang: 14-52 (27 percent) in his last 12 games
Matt Thomas followed a similar trajectory of being mediocre at the beginning of the year, heating up in late January when he went 9-17 in a three game stretch, and then cooling off again near the end of the year.
Matt Thomas: 8-33 (24 percent) in his last nine games.
Let’s hope these two can light up the Bears tonight!
