Who would you rather have

AT quarterback for your football team Drew Tate or Bret Meyer

Me and my friends (mostly hawks) keep on having arguments to who would u rather have at QB. I kinda want to see what most people think here and please try not to be bias.

Almost every Hawk would rather have Tate...most every Cyclone would rather have Meyer.

It's partially bias, yet mostly because the two are rather even when you compare stats and what they do for the team when on and off the field.

It's nice there can actually be a viable debate as to what school has the better QB!

And of course, I'll take Meyer every single Saturday and even on Thursday night!

I believe Tate was the better throwing QB out of HS. What BM has done in his first 2 years is amazing. He has become a complete package (although the deep ball could be improved) during his tenure. I see that as a huge sign our coaches know how to develop players. I have not seen the same jump or smaller jump out of Tate since he started.

IMO, after both of these QB's are out of college, BM will be the better of the two. Not just in stats, but in presence, game play and future opportunities.

Two years ago, I would have picked Tate; last year and this year, my pick is The Bret Meyer.

I agree. I firmly believe we're looking at a future NFL QB - one that has a very good chance to be a first day pick.

Todd Fitch deserves some praise for molding Meyer into the QB we see each Saturday.

one thing about Brett that is consistantly ignored...is what a quality person the young man is. In a time of continued issues with student-athletes..(Berryman, Pierce) Brett is a nice reminder of what can be good about college football.

If Meyer had Tate's "quickness" in the backfield, and nimbleness to escape, Bret would be extremely deadly.

Bret is fast when he gets going, but is slow in the pocket

Bret usually makes good decisions when and where to throw the ball. Only a few times, was his decision making degraded. I think that is a good quality ofr the pros. Doi not take unneccessary chances.

I would take Meyer in a split second, even if he had his left arm tied behind his back. Much more level headed and even keeled. If I was an EIU coach, Drewby's temper tantrums and field decisions when things aren't going his way would scare me to death. Last year on the play that led to his concussion against a clearly dominant ISU team, it was his frustration that led to the idiot decision to tackle the way he tried to. And he looked real cool on national TV spiking the ball in frustration agains Penn State(or Michigan).

what's most interesting is that Hawks like to compare Tate with Brett Favre...and I have seen Favre play live many times...and Favre has never had the "anger" issues that Tate displays time to time.

I saw a similiar debate on HR.com about whos better, B. Meyer or B. Banks. Of course they all concluded that it wasnt even close. But they never mentioned the quality players Banks got to play with, or how he was beat out his junior year by the "great" Nate Chandler. The Oline for Banks that year was quite awesome. I think almost all of them were in in the NFL camps at at the very least.
Of course i need to realize that the people posting arent exactly rational. They all have their black n gold glasses on and for all they know that is the only thing that exists.
This is Meyers year to really stick out, cause who knows whatll happen next year with an entirely new Oline.

Of course I'm going to pick Meyer in a heartbeat, but what I want to post is what I want to see out of Meyer this year in improvement. I could care less what Tate does as he will be going nowhere once his 4 years are up anyway. But Meyer last year had a real problem checking down his receivers. He seemed to have one or two guys that he was going to go to on a play. Yes, he used several receivers, but when he got to the line he seemed to know who he was going to. Favre is great at staying in the pocket, checking down those receivers and staying tough long enough to find the right man. With the weapons we have, this year could be unbelievable if he learns to check down those receivers.

with out a doubt meyer his a better person off the field tate everytime i have seen him has been kind of a D-bag and meyer has always be cordial plus i see more up side to meyer on the field i think hes got more potential than tate. i think tate peaked during the LSU game and hes not gotten any better since that season

At least part of the problem was the pass blocking Meyer had. He didn't have time to check down all his recievers because the blocks couldn't hold that long. With 5 returning OLineman and hopefully healthy Hicks, I would bet things will get much better. Meyer was sacked a Big 12 high 39 times last year.......

I think if nothing else, I would take Meyer because he has two years of eligility left. Tate is done after this year.

Drew Tate has been a marginal quarterback at best. His entire career has been made over one pass
