Statistically, it would have to be Shudak.

58-79 all-time in FG's, with 6 of them over 49 yards.
92-95 all-time in PAT's.
266 points. Still first all-time.

He was also pretty clutch. He gets my vote.

And yes, Stewart did have two 58 yarders, both in 93. Crazy, but true.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was a freshman that year and thought he did, but then wasn't sure. That is huge. I know I saw at least one of them as I was at every home game that year. Season tickets for $36!

Jeff Shudak by far
In my mind Shudak was in a class by himself and no one else even compares. I'd put him in a class with Nate Kaeding (not saying he's better -- calm down, Hawk fans -- just in the conversation). I don't know if he had a chance to go pro. It seems kickers are a supply-and-demand situation and even if you're great, everything has to work out for you to even get a shot in the NFL. As I recall, Shudak was a smart kid who landed a good job out of college and I don't know if the NFL was ever considered an option for him.

Scott Kollman - kicker - the only bare footed, left footed soccer style kicker in Cyclone history...I can still remember watching him kick in the dead of winter and was nearly automatic! His only downfall was not making the game winning kick against the flying sky carps at eiu in 1977 which some fsc (flying sky carp) fan* has in his sign line and will surely surface sooner or later.

Rick Blabolil - punter - avg'd a Cyclone single game record with a 58.5 yard avg in 2 punts vs. Okie State in November 1977! Oh yeah, that one was played in Ames...for what it's worth.

*My new termonology for that eiu team to the east of Ames formerly know as the hoks to me...now are the "flying sky carps" which is stenciled on lots of items throughout the state...just poking a little fun here - of course
