IMO Iowa's class is strongly overrated. Not top 25. It makes me cringe to hear hawks say that their class is better than ours just bc ESPN has it in the top 25. Our class is much better than theirs and we will prove it by beating them every year.

To be fair, you can't just rank a class how you see fit. It's ranked what it's ranked for a reason but it doesn't guarantee that their lofty rankings will translate to college. That goes for Fred's class as well.

Friday is a traditional HS night if the Universities cared about the game they'd find another date.

This is your basis for stating that it's not a rivalry? :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

still doesn't make him 6-2
Iowa isn't a rival in BB if they were they would play the game on Friday night.

Well, then, when you said they 'would' play the game on Friday night....you perhaps should have used the word 'wouldn't', which means the opposite of would.

Edited.

ISU should be even better in 2012 with Clyburn and Lucious eligible.
I take it you are assuming that White stays, while I'm assuming he doesn't. Also, have you watched Lucious play? Not saying he can't turn it around, but he was a disappointment at MSU to say it nicely.

Iowa landed Woodbury who was going to b a hawk no matter what. That is fine, he is a very good player. The rest of the recruits are pretty blah.

Most recruits seem to be mid major players with Gessell being a question mark.

Fred is recruiting at entirely higher level. Just look at all of Fred's recruits offers lists and then look at some of the scrubs Iowa signs.

Short term: ISU

Medium/Long Term: Toss up

I feel pretty strongly that Fred will find more success in 2011-12. The following season, we should be sitting pretty good as well.

After that, it's a toss up, as it depends heavily on kids that have never played a single minute in a college basketball game.

Both teams seem to have some good talent coming in for 2012, but you never know until they actually play.

One thing that will play into our hands is if Hoiberg can get his next two teams into the tourney, his recruiting momentum will be on par with anyone outside of the top 10 programs like UNC, Duke, KU, etc. So far, Fred has shown that kids want to play for him (and stay for him). If he can prove that he is able to coach talented teams into the tourney, we will be able to go toe to toe with almost any team in the country on the recruiting trail.

Yes, that's assuming White is still around. We'll have Lucious and Sledge to handle the point and still have Babb and McGee as deep threats. Clyburn will have an immediate impact on that 2012 team, dude is a scoring machine.

Two different recruiting paths so it's hard to compare the two.

Fred is taking in transfers to win now and targeting bigger recruits down the road. If he wins in a hurry, he should be able to get better recruits as ISU will be relevant again.

Fran is building using young talent. He's selling the program and trying to build up a program through recruiting high school kids right away and hoping they pan out in a couple of years. If Iowa fans give him enough time, he may be able to start winning and having great recruiting classes.

Both are taking chances. If ISU doesn't win with transfers right now, it puts them right back where they started when McD left. If Fran doesn't win "soon enough" for Iowa fans or some of his high school recruits don't pan out, he could lose his job.

Personally, I don't think we could have a good idea of who has the brighter future until after year 3.

Babb is a very good player, enjoyed watching him as PSU, just not sold on Lucious. Not sure on Clyburn either, hard to get a good read on someone who's the leading scorer on a bad team. If White stays, after the road he has taken, then I'm not sure he's as good as advertised. With that being said, I'm pretty sure he's the real deal, and hope he leaves after 1 year of beatdown.

The fact is that while not all highly rated players turn out, in general ratings can predict the success of players at the college level. That is why teams like KU, UK, UNC, UCLA, Duke etc go after the highest rated players, because they are rated highly for a reason. There is a direct correlation between the teams annually ranked at the top of college basketball and the number of highly rated recruits they get.

Both coaches/programs have a lot to prove. I wouldn't get too excited until a team shows it can win games and make the field of 64.

Yeah hard to get a read on someone who gets 18 and 9 every night with opposing defenses swarming him all the time.

Not sure what you mean by your RW comment, If he stays in school after transferring from another program then he isn't as good as we hope? Or maybe he has concerns about certain aspects of his game that could be refined after getting back into competitive ball after nearly 2 years out of it or something responsible like that.

Woodbury's great. I dont buy into the Gessel hype at all. The commits aren't anything too special. Its a good class (especially for Iowa) but I dont think that its top 25.

No offense, but I'm not sure you're a better judge of talent than ESPN, Rivals, and Scout.

Honestly, and this is a beef I have with Iowa fans who also are down on Gesell, but if he wasn't white, what would your opinion be of him?

He's a 4 star recruit with offers from Stanford, Nebraska, Utah, Iowa, and Iowa State (and yes, I know FH wasn't recruiting him, but he's still listed with an offer), who averaged 19.4 points, 6.2 assists, 7.7 rebounds, 3.4 steals.

What about his play tells you he's not worth the hype?

Is this thread title serious? Iowa State will by far have the better program under Fred. Wins, post season success, recruits, etc...
